Greetings All,

This tea set was a wedding present for my daughter and I wanted to capture it before she took it home. This is the first time I've done a presentation type shot and I'd like to do more. Any and all comments are welcome. Shot on a Canon 50D, 24-105 f4.5, 4.0 sec @ f22 100 ISO.

Thanks in advance.

That is quite a lovely presentation. I really like the tea set. I think there is a bit of a white balance issue that is detracting from the pure white of the entire service.

Hmmm... seemed a little brighter on my laptop when I posted it. Will look at it again.

If you'd like, I can add to your thread and post a corrected version.

Bob, appreciate it but I’ll give it another whirl.

Incindently, my wife says the top of the tea pot is out of focus, seems ok to me though.

The second shot is better. I think the background is a problem; I would have chosen a darker color . I think darker would help to make the items stand out more than they do now. I'd like to see the POP!

The picture is properly exposed and in focus. The arrangement of the elements is orderly and pleasing. Depending on your purpose for taking the picture I would either remove the cake from the bowl or add some tea to a few of the cups.

I agree, remove the baked goods. They distract from the beautiful set.

Very nicely done. Good arrangement. Really good control of light. Don't the Russians put cream in their tea? Where's the cream pitcher?

My wife is Russian and I’ve never seen her put cream in her tea, or anyone in her family for that matter. I think it’s more of an English thing.(?)

But thanks for the comments. The task was to capture a beautiful set mostly for practice and to share but maybe even for display. Not sure about adding some tea but I think I’d agree to not use the cake next time.

I agree the second shot is better… but background is wimpy and contributes an unnecessary and competing texture… go a finer weave in either black/navy, white or gold- just like the subject. Yes, lose the swirly bread. However, there does need to be “something” that attracts the eye- a dominant point- one of the cups inconsistent with the others- perhaps turned upside down or on its side to display any markings or, a splash of color- red/orange comes to mind… maybe a rose (tea rose?) instead of the bread... ... just my thoughts....

The background was what we had that I thought would be a good neutral color. But I see what you mean and I think a solid navy background to offset the white would be better. And a splash of color in the plate too, maybe some sliced oranges?

May I suggest lemon wedges. I don't think anyone puts oranges in their tea, not even Russians.
