Good for you, not killing it 'just because'. As you said they are an important part of the ecosystem and all he wanted to do was get away from you ... you definitely did the right thing.
As to using a P&S to take pics of this guy ... not so sure unless it had like a 41x zoom on it or something :)
Thank you.
I kept four feet or more distance

Back in the 60's we would see a lot of these snakes, I was bit by a cottonmouth when I was 16 and spent a week in the hospital so I do have a lot of respect for what they can do. Out where we would see many of these snakes we now see very few, I know a lot of people say that's a good thing but I don't agree, they are part of the ecosystem and have their place. The guy that was with me when we found this one was trying all he could to get me to run it over with the truck and was shocked that all I wanted to do is move it off the road. He kept telling me how mean it was but I had pushed it all the way across the road and had to hit it with the foam 5 or 6 more times before it struck at the foam. All it was trying to do is escape. I told him to pay attention and tell me what the snake was trying to do other than live, he could not come up with a argument after that

Always remember... with wildlife it's best to shoot at eye level and with some a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong lens. LOL
This was with my little work point and shoot so I had to be pretty close, I used a piece of ethafoam as a shield
came across a nice eastern diamondback yesterday but only had a cheap point and shoot
we had a lot of rain now everything is growing

Very nice!! I get all of those...EXCEPT the painted buntings!!! I've been trying...but they don't seem to like my yard!! Grrrr....
Nice job!
I have very heavy growth of trees and palms that my feeders are placed next to and the buntings are in that. Another feeder that is more open never has them on it, so they like cover
The first airshow i attended was in the mid 60s and the P51 was so incredible flying straight at over me very low (when that was still allowed) It has been a favorite since. My Mom grew up during the war and always loved the P51. In 2007 she was very ill and I found out about the Gathering of Mustangs and legends, 75+ mustangs and everything else, I showed it to her and told her we should go, she was wise enough to know she could not make it but insisted I go so I bought my tickets. Mom passed away 10 days before the airshow. A first I did not want to go but then thought it was what she wanted me to do so I went, This was the best airshow I have ever been to, It jump started my Photography, I picked up a D70 and used a old 70-300 film lense and got about 350 keepers. I felt she was with me at the show, I had played with photography 30 years ago but gave it up because of the high price, she always wanted me to get back into it and this did it. I know Mom is very happy
I do have a few pics with prop blur but l lost sharpness with the low shutter speed, will work on it in the future. These shots were with a old ai lense, my new VR lenses should help with this.
it's a hawk just turned so it looks like a owl and it is directly over a feeder doing what it does the small woodpecker is right under the hawk making lots of noise
