Those birds were game changers in WWII and always a pleasure to see fly....someday I'm gonna get me a ride in one of those. Already had one in a B-24. Have you seen the movie "Memphis Belle?" It is about a B-17 crew flying their last mission in WWII. They were the first crew to do the required 30 missions to be able to go home...The AAF Was going to have them do a PR Tour when they got back to the states, to help sell war bonds. It is out on DVD and I would recommend it for anyone interested in old planes. If you want to see a 2/3 replica of a P-51 that you can buy and build - do a Google search for T-51 or Titan Aircraft Kits. The kit uses a Honda 245 HP car engine for power. Great photos!

"Aluminum Overcast", among others was at "my" airport last July 4th weekend as we hosted planes for Fair St. Louis. They will be here this year too. After they did their thing at the Arch, the came back and did a secondary performance for free for the people with physical challenges we had there (everyone except the crew/security people). One of the performers was my EAA pic pilot and I got his autograph on a printed copy of my photo. It's hanging on my wall now. On the flight pics, it would have been better to use something like 1/100 or 1/125 sec exposure to get prop blur (but I've screwed that one up plenty of times myself!!) In 2011, two of my pics got at Oshkosh were chosen as pics for e-pubs - Picture of the Week (10/29/11) on AvWeb and Picture of the Month (June 2012) on EAA.com...just got lucky, really.

I do have a few pics with prop blur but l lost sharpness with the low shutter speed, will work on it in the future. These shots were with a old ai lense, my new VR lenses should help with this.

EAA's B-17 can be ridden for ~$435 (http://www.b17.org/) Bummer...I totally thought I had a copy of "Memphis Belle," but I can't find it :(

The P 51 Mustang was the very best long distance fighter in the world, and to me it is still one of the most aesthetically pleasing aircraft ever.
Thnx for the memories !

The first airshow i attended was in the mid 60s and the P51 was so incredible flying straight at over me very low (when that was still allowed) It has been a favorite since. My Mom grew up during the war and always loved the P51. In 2007 she was very ill and I found out about the Gathering of Mustangs and legends, 75+ mustangs and everything else, I showed it to her and told her we should go, she was wise enough to know she could not make it but insisted I go so I bought my tickets. Mom passed away 10 days before the airshow. A first I did not want to go but then thought it was what she wanted me to do so I went, This was the best airshow I have ever been to, It jump started my Photography, I picked up a D70 and used a old 70-300 film lense and got about 350 keepers. I felt she was with me at the show, I had played with photography 30 years ago but gave it up because of the high price, she always wanted me to get back into it and this did it. I know Mom is very happy

I can tell by the tail number that the B17 is the "Yankee Lady". I got a bunch of photos of her, both on the ground and in the air, last year from an air show near where I live. The air show was at an old WWII B17 training base. Not much left of the base but the acres and acres of concrete. It was a small town show so only a few Mustangs. It's really amazing to see the old planes still flying. TNmike
