:(

Our house burned to the ground when i was a kid- lost all of our pictures. All our baby pictures. Really- the only thing you can't replace are photos and a random heirloom - everything else you can just buy again. I think that's part of the reason I am such a picture hoarder now lol

I was wondering about hose online back up sites though... can they back up huge picture files? Anyone know? Seems that would be the only sure fire way to keep you pictures "safe"

I found a photographer in the area with whom I simply adore her work, esp with kids. She is going to set up a pricing for online lessons. Since I have three kids I can't really run off to take pics (without one munchkin or 2) or go to a class. I'll follow assignments and she will talk to me on the phone and via e-mail about the pictures and help me understand my camera and composition. I came to her about this and she seems excited to have a "follower" lol - so she is down to helping me with this art.

Just wondering if anyone has ever done this and how much they paid.

I am not very awesome at BW so this is my best shot- took out a bit of the green cast and a few hairs then cropped
But I like kids better in color anyhow- she does have brilliant eyes! And love the hair! This is how I would edit it.

I think if there was some lead room to her gaze it would be better- zoomed out a bit and space to the right. I also prefer the second BW edit- the sepia looks a bit green. Do you have the SOOC pic?

I stepped out of the house today and made a big mistake... grabbed the wrong CF card. Grabbed a TINY CF card. :( And today was kinda important because it was my daughters first day of preschool. Which makes it even MORE annoying! I had to take the pics in JPEG- but at least I took them in large JPEG. even then... only had 6 shots before I filled the card. VERY annoying. Anyhow... I really screwed up these pics. Gurrr!!!!

So thinking out loud a bout what I did wrong... tell me if you agree or if you think I left something out...

First... I am looking at the exposure- over exposed. I think I really needed a fill light, but again.. I need to sit down and figure out how to control the flash. I had them facing very diffused light on an extremely cloudy first day of fall. I had it at F4... but with two subjects... maybe should have bumped it up to 5.6? Shutter speed was 1/1000. Honestly, I have pretty much figured out how to move my lil ticker in my cannon to the left or right and make sure it's in the middle to get it exposed right. And then I bump it up pr down depending on the exposure in the view finder. That's how I get exposure. Not very scientific, is that? ISO was 400.

Other than that- I should have taken more time to back up to get the boys shoes.

I think over all I was rattled having to go back and erase pics because my darn CF card was small. I wasn't thinking straight.
But I could crop it so not a huge deal. Still... nice to have the option.

SOOC

PS edit

A pic I took later to redeem myself- her first artwork :)

I just noticed how new newborn your granddaughter was at the time of this pic! All babies have teh blue hands when they are so new- I would keep them a bit blue, shows her age ;)

BTW- NONE of my kids came out looking that gorgeous!

Do you have PS?

Color cast if off- you need to reset the WB and you may be able to on PS. She is a total doll baby, love the cuddly pose! I think you can tweak it into being right with the colors and up the saturation a bit.

I take literally hundreds of pictures till I find one that makes me happy. It takes a reformatted card and patience to take good pics of kids, in my experience. Get baby near a better light source, it is a bit dark and slightly underexposed. Also, look s a bit out of focus- but that could be the light again.

I def see how the subject would also include dad's head as well as baby.

So interesting all the different takes on how to edit this one! lol No wonder I was hung up on it! Thanks again for all the input!

ITA needs more headroom. Your in way to close for all that hair lol Maybe a bit more exposure. Curls are FUN to take pictures of! You are going to have a blast taking pics of this cutie with your new camera!

I posted some pics of my youngest, a blue eyed baby boy. Now for my green eyed little mischief maker.
She is impossible to take pictures of- just a goof ball who 99% of the time refuses to smile for the camera. These are SOOC. I feel I have the right exposure, but it doesn't sparkle enough for me. Like, it doesn't have the "wow" effect I see in the child photographers I idolize. Maybe it's just not Photo shopped. What would you do to "pop" the picture on PS
Please critique away! And feel free to edit lol
I posted some pics of my youngest, a blue eyed bab... (show quote)

Wow the first two you should frame, especially the second shot. What a little angel! Nice work.

Critiques are most welcome..would like to improve myself..

Wow- that was a great edit IMO!

Love the texture on the first pic of the grass and the colors. The second is very grainy- guessing it was the low light. Looks like your setting out the right way, picking up a camera and taking pictures of what is beautiful!

I can't do it... lol but if I could I would just edit out the light in the right side of the eve. Personally- I like the lines of the barn. helps put the horse in a location and tells part of the story... if that makes any sense.
