The first one is one of my favorite pictures. No photo editing done to it. Came acrossed the mackinaw bridge to a storm.

The second one is of a clam in the water. was surprised on how well the picture turned out.

And advise is welcomed. I am still learning.

The storm is a really nice photo. Really conveys the feeling that a storm is coming. The clam shot I'm impressed with how well the many colored rocks show. Hope you don't mind, I tried a few minor adjustments just to see what PSE could do with it. I used auto levels to give a little more depth and improve the colors (at least I think the colors are improved...Only you know what the colors really looked like). I manually sharpened it. I cropped it to incorporate the Rule of Thirds.

Random.. back to the filter question about leaves.. would a filter helped take a clearer pic of the clam?
Nice strop composition - looked like it was a whopper o a storm!

Removed the "tiny bit" of distraction in the upper left of your edit. Otherwise I loved your edit!

I never noticed that. You have a good eye. I do like it better with that gone. :D

This is a great site. Thank you all for posting photos and editing help. I'm an absolute newbie and learning so much.
Thanks again.

Great sky!! Try cropping the clam so that it is in the bottom 1/3 rather than the top... it just doesn't feel right to me to be up so high...but, that's just me. Nice job on finding subjects.

Okay, somebody please stop the train here a minute!?
*blush*

I went back and compared the two, Mommy's edit and yours, blueeyes... and apparently I need to make an appointment with the eye Doc. *grins*

What was the "distraction"?
I'm thinking the teensy, weensy bit of blueish-green reflecting?
Other than that... I'm not sure what was distracting...

and I DO wanna know, because I have a tendency in life to gloss over too many details. It's getting worse as I age!

That wouldn't make for a good photographer, let alone a GREAT one... which I want to be... someday.

Mommy cropped your photo which really helped it, her cropped version still had a "TINY BIT" of reflection that distracted up in the top left hand side. That is all!!

I love this forum. I'm sittin' here thnkin' the same thing as Clay2. Yesterday, I submitted a shot of a merganser coming in for a landing. They make their final approach at about 60 miles per hour and toss their butts at the water and slice through the surface coming in for a landing. I wanted to try to show the act of landing and put my bird on the short side of the frame for the direction of travel leading out of the shot. It went on into last night how the bird needed to be back on the front side of the frame slidin' into the picture and on, and on...

I love how it depends on who responds, what you get. Ladies are more flexible with the rules generally and will overlook rule bending which is not the normal tendency of ladies, IMHO, and men are more non-negotiable, an observation of those in here at least.

Here, you've obviously got a fast moving clam who is headed at break-neck speed toward the short side of the frame and is about to run right out of the frame and you ladies think it's marvelous. Wait'll the men get in here. That'll all change. That clam is obviously headed for a disaster any minute now, or perhaps any day. :)

By the way, it's a very nice shot.
