I've been to Hawaii several times and can tell you you don't need any big telephoto for pictures of seals or turtles or even for whales Dec through Feb. They will be approaching you so you don't need to worry about getting to close. On Kuai the turtles were right in the harbor swimming and posing near the shore. the seals frequently haul themselves up onto the beach right in the middle of the swimmers and the whales are just off shore putting on a show. A whale watch around the new year amounts to a very short boat ride followed by the boat spending as much time getting out of the way of whales as approaching them. Hawaii is truly paradise especially for photographers. I'd be more concerned to make sure I had a wide angle with me for all the scenics. I did find a big telephoto handy for surfing action shots
thanks all for the info. Now I feel I have a starting point
I'm obviously not very computer literate. beyond processing my pictures and email I am clueless. I was told by Best Buy (where I got my new computer) that the CS6 and photomatix programs are no longer supported by ????
I've read enough to realize Lightroom and photoshop aren't the same but don't know the differences. I'm looking for a program that will allow me to process my pictures from RAW to JPEG and do HDR I really don't do anything more complicated that that. CS6 wasn't cheap and I barely scratched the surface of the program in all the years I had it.
Since I'm basically starting fresh I don't want to tie myself into something way beyond my needs and I obviously have never been on the or in the cloud. what do you suggest
I've always processed my pictures with photoshop CS6 and photomatix. I recently purchased a new Mac and I can't bring the old programs onto the new computer. I'm not a heavy user of photoshop but I enjoy shooting in RAW as a starting point. I may adjust contrast or lighten shadows or crop and I like using HDR on some scenics... What would you suggest I get for my cloud account. I've never used it but apparently that's my best option.
thanks to all for the valuable input
I just had a gas attack and bought a new apple tabletop computer. I've been using photoshop 6 on my old computer Its my understanding that now its all in "the cloud" and I'll have to go there to process my pictures, most of which are shot in raw. I use photomatix for HDR. If the above is true, it has been suggested that I might want Lightroom instead of Photoshop. I am a minimalist with my processing. Almost never use cloning and primarily just adjust exposure levels and cropping. I shoot with a Nikon D800, D7100 and D7500 if that makes any difference. Suggestions for the new computer set up would be appreciated. Photoshop..lightroom...photomatix... What the best way to go
Need help getting my Epson XP 8600 to print again. Every attempt leads to a filter failed code. I uninstalled and then reinstalled the printer to no avail. I have it tied to a MacOS High Sierra computer. that is also linked to a
HP Envy Photo 7855 printer. Th HP is working fine. One printer (epson) is always loaded with photo paper. Went online for help and for $1.00 one week trial followed by a $48 per month fee they can fix it, they say. It's not worth a $48/month fee. ideas ?
check to see what day it's closed. I can't remember which day but it is closed 1 day. There is no problem taking what you want a doing the loop in a car. Lots of places to pull over and get out for pictures. Try to time your trip near low tide. the number and variety of birds and how close they will be is amazing. Alligators as well. Everyone there is doing the same thing so go slow and enjoy it
For the boat ride the dolphins will come right over to the boat and jump in the wake behind the boat. so no large lenses required there. Enjoy its is phenomenal
being able to get the same image from a greater distance. It's also one hell of a portrait lens
I had similar problems with a pixama printer and then an epson they tried to get me to sign up for yearly fee of $495 to trouble shoot each of them. I finally contacted friends that had them and it was a simple fix each time
I'm getting pictures that are almost black whenever I use my built in flash or Nikon flash accessory if I leave the mode in auto. If I switch to manual exposure everything is fine. Any ideas ?
My recently purchased ( two months ago?)printer doesn't like my comet shots. There are parallel lines, evenly spaced, across the entire print. I followed instructions on cleaning the heads and power cleaning, no change. I went on line to the epson site and was instructed to remove the ink cartridges and clean it out with rubbing alcohol, no change. Then I was told to change all of my ink cartridges. Things didn't change other than I was out the cost of a lot of ink. On a regular photo it's not as bad but it is still noticeable even without the uniform dark background. Any thoughts on a solution ? It's a XP 8600 epson printer
I use a Nikon D7200 with and 18 - 300 f? lens as my all around camera. Out in the boat, on hunting trips...It covers wide angle all the way out to reasonable telephoto when different opportunities abound. Riding in a car or short hikes in decent weather brings out all the gear ( D800...) but when weight and space are critical that's the one I "never leave home without" I carry a folded up plastic kitchen trash bag with the camera for when the weather isn't cooperative.
My newest camera, Nikon D7500, apparently requires an updated raw processing program (version 9.12 I believe) The program for my D800 and D7100 apparently won't open the pictures. I'm using a Mac. I can't seem to figure out how to update my program. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have photoshop CS6
If it makes any difference I use a mac system. I had an Epson Artisan printer for years. In fact, I wore it out.
When I went to Best Buy to replace it I ended up with a Canon Pixma. I have not been at all happy with it.
The colors aren't as good and replacing an ink cartridge after it ran out caused a lot of manipulating to get the colors anywhere near accurate. I want to go back to an Epson but can't decide which one. It is over an hour drive just to get to Best Buy (the nearest store to me that sells computer equipment) so I think I'm going to buy online but I'm not comfortable shopping sight unseen. The largest prints I make are 8x10. Any suggestions as to which model might best meet my needs would be much appreciated
