trouble shooting Epson xp 8600 printer

My recently purchased ( two months ago?)printer doesn't like my comet shots. There are parallel lines, evenly spaced, across the entire print. I followed instructions on cleaning the heads and power cleaning, no change. I went on line to the epson site and was instructed to remove the ink cartridges and clean it out with rubbing alcohol, no change. Then I was told to change all of my ink cartridges. Things didn't change other than I was out the cost of a lot of ink. On a regular photo it's not as bad but it is still noticeable even without the uniform dark background. Any thoughts on a solution ? It's a XP 8600 epson printer

My wife has an HP printer that does that sometimes. Usually, running the manufacturer's head-cleaning program resolves it. Very rarely she also has to run the original alignment-check routine, restart the printer and computer, or replace the ink cartridges. Since you've already replaced the ink, you might try those other options to see if they help at all.

Since replacing your ink cartridges didn't resolve the issue, don't dispose of those previous cartridges just yet. After you resolve the issue, put them back in, see if they work OK, and if so continue using them up.

Good luck.

Can you have a friend print a small copy of the print with lines on their printer?
Use the same file.
If their print is fine it's either the printer driver got buggered or the printer is messed up.
Simplest to re-install the printer software.

You didn't say if the nozzle check print was good. Also the nozzle alignment is important. If both of those are good and you still get stripes the printer is defective and needs to go back to Epson under warranty (I assume).

Instead of head cleaning try to print a multicolored file at draft quality. It uses less ink. May have to do it several times. I do mine on 4x6 or 5x7 paper.

A Cardinal rule when using Epson or virtually ANY Ink Jet printer is....

Print a color image every week.

One of a typical test image from Epson or anywhere which uses all of the colors see the following, downloaded from Google Images, search for "printer test page color".

Also seal all of the ink cartridges you purchased, you should be able to still use them. I print a similar picture on three Epson photo color printers every week.

Good Luck

When that happens to me I clean the printer head contacts with cue tips and Isopropyl 70%.

After two months you must be under warranty. I would call Epson. Either they will have a solution or be willing to replace your printer and pay to ship both ways. Ask to talk to a manager if they are not cooperative. >Alan

Have you run Printer head alignment from the front panel or the printer software on your computer? Head alignment is the reason I occasionally see horizontal lines when I’ve not used my epson printer for a while.

Have you done a nozzle check? No sense doing cleanings if the nozzles are clean. Nozzle check will tell you that.

Do you have print mode set to Photo: High Quality, or whatever Epson calls it?
