what do I need joining the cloud

I've always processed my pictures with photoshop CS6 and photomatix. I recently purchased a new Mac and I can't bring the old programs onto the new computer. I'm not a heavy user of photoshop but I enjoy shooting in RAW as a starting point. I may adjust contrast or lighten shadows or crop and I like using HDR on some scenics... What would you suggest I get for my cloud account. I've never used it but apparently that's my best option.

Try to load it fron disc and disconnect from internet. I was having issues with elements 2020 liading and a fellow hugger suggested it and it worked. I have cs3 and it's worthless now. That wasn't a cheap program

@Ollie, I am unclear as to what you mean, exactly, by "What would you suggest I get for my cloud account.".... what cloud account are you talking about? Or do youunderstand what the 'cloud' is?

If you are referring to the Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom software, then just subscribing for $10/month allows you to download and use those programs (actually, two flavors of Lightroom - one that resides and works on your Mac just like CS6 did - that's referred to as LR Classic - and then a cloud based version of LR - Adobe did a horrible job of naming the programs).

If you are referring to iCloud - which is Apple's name for their cloud based storage service - you already have an iCloud account since Apple provides one with your Mac (assuming you're registered) - it's free for a certain amount of storage and you can pay a small fee (like $1.07) for 50GB of storage.

For that matter, your Mac came with Apple's own photo storage and processing program called "Photos" - perhaps you would want to start with that.

But the real point is - what do you think you are asking?

It's not "the cloud" that's stopping your old software from running. It's the fact that your old stuff isn't compatible with the latest Mac operating systems and possibly the latest hardware. If you buy newer versions of the software that you like you should find that they run OK, with the added advantage that they will be in the form of upgrades.

The new Apple computers are now using 64 bit processors. My new Apple Studio has basically outdated 5 applications that I had previously. This is the cost of progress. I am now awaiting those applications to be updated.

Since you say you are an infrequent Photoshop user, if you don’t want to subscribe to the $10/month Adobe Photography Plan to get Photoshop I would suggest buying Photoshop Elements and add the Elements+ application to unlock additional features.

If you mean a cloud account to back up your data, BackBlaze has a good reputation.

Are you just trying to bring your Photoshop up to date for your new Mac? Or are you trying to find a replacement program for your CS6 version of Photoshop?

It your reference to "joining the cloud" means the "Adobe Creative Cloud" marketing system, the only choice to get a Photoshop version for your Mac is to agree to a yearly "renting" program called the "Adobe Photography Plan". It gives you Photoshop but also 'throws in' some extras. It is an annual contract that you pay $9.99 per month. There is no other way to get a version of Photoshop that will run on a Mac.

The new Macs are all 645-bit and 32-bit programs such as CS6 will not run. Period.

All you need for the Cloud is an internet connection.

However you may be a bit confused. The Adobe Photography Package has several components.
1. Adobe Lightroom Classic (LrC) - can store locally
2. Adobe Photoshop - can store locally
3. Bridge
4. Adobe Camera RAW
5. Adobe Lightroom (different than LrC and it only runs on Phones and iPads. I do not use it but I believe it only stores in the cloud. You have no choice. (Others correct me if I am mistaken).
6. Adobe Photoshop for iPhone and iPad - not sure about the storage.
7. Ability to set up 4 separate web sites for no additional charge on the Adobe Servers.

Be careful about the nomenclature of the programs and storage location. You may not want to start paying Adobe a bunch of money for storage if you don't do a lot of mobile photography where you need to process images immediately.

My take only. I am sure others have different opinions. You must educate yourself before spending you money.

I'm obviously not very computer literate. beyond processing my pictures and email I am clueless. I was told by Best Buy (where I got my new computer) that the CS6 and photomatix programs are no longer supported by ????

I've read enough to realize Lightroom and photoshop aren't the same but don't know the differences. I'm looking for a program that will allow me to process my pictures from RAW to JPEG and do HDR I really don't do anything more complicated that that. CS6 wasn't cheap and I barely scratched the surface of the program in all the years I had it.
Since I'm basically starting fresh I don't want to tie myself into something way beyond my needs and I obviously have never been on the or in the cloud. what do you suggest

Did you at least try to load program while disconnected from internet?

Okay, you at least have clarified things a little.

As I mentioned above - your Mac came with Apple's photo processing program called Photos. Since it is already there, perhaps you should try to use it as a start. While Photos (the program - again, another stupid name) does not do HDR itself, a simple search leads to Mac compatible HDR software, most of which cost money to license but one, Luminance HDR (https://sourceforge.net/projects/qtpfsgui/) is free.

Your new Apple computer's Photos program will process RAW from a lot of cameras! Here is the list: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208967
