Or the Adobe DNG converter. I use this if I need to open a cr2 from my 6D into PSE 10. It slows things down a little but works well. (...snip...)

I keep forgetting about that DNG converter. I know it exists, but I just don't think about it.
So, yes, that is definitely another option.
And of course, you can edit .dng files the same way as .cr2 files.

I just received my first book printed by Blurb and am very pleased with it.
Although I did use their software to load the pages to their website, I made each page in PSE 12. First the blank page, of the pixel dimensions the photos should not go outside of. After I had put on my images, I added pixels all around the page, so the photo edges would not be cut off when the book was trimmed, and finally added pixels on the binding side.
Because I have a good deal of scrapbooking experience with PSE, this was the way to go for me, rather than using their software to add 4 - 6 photos per page.

Thanks, MT Shooter & MtnMan... I appreciate your comments. I was leaning toward not getting the extra warranty, but thought I'd ask for input first. Thanks, again!

I have never purchased an extended warranty for anything. I do usually ask how much it costs, then decline. When I get home, I transfer that amount of money to my savings account.
When my computer crashed, I just took the money out of the account and bought a new one (and had enough money left over to buy other things, if needed).

One question I have not been able to get an answer to: Considering the pressure some sales-staff put on a customer to buy the extended warranty, what percentage of "kick-back" do they get?

Checked your sites mentioned. My Elements 10 is shipped with ver. 6.4.1, my T4i has ver. 7.1. Do I have upgrade to a newer version of Elements to use RAW features?

I responded to this in the other thread you started, "RAW":

Yes, PSE10 shipped with ACR 6.4.1 and is compatible up to ACR 6.7. Your Canon T4i needs at least ACR 7.1. So there is a gap, and unfortunately you'll never get CR2 images from the Canon T4i to open in PSE10.

Using T4i. I went through "update" proc in the Elements help menu.

In order to have PSE open your CR2 files, I'm afraid you'll have to upgrade to a newer version than 10.
The Canon T4i needs ACR version 7.1 or later, PSE10 supports ACR 6.7 or earlier.

If you don't want to upgrade to PSE 11 (if you can still find it) or PSE12 (the current version), I'm afraid your only option is to use the software that came with your camera, or use an "outside" program such as Rawtherapee.

No, cthahn, you don't have to guess. All you have to do is scroll down the messages in this topic and look at the screenshots!

Can't get Elements 10 to recognize ".cr2" file. Comes back "cannot open wrong type of file". My Adobe Updates are updated. Photos taken as RAW/JPEG.. JEP file loads normally.

Are you using a fairly new camera? The camera may need a newer ACR version than is compatible with PSE10.
If you'll give me the camera brand and model you use, I'll look it up for you.

p.s. I just purchased a 85 mm refurbished lens from canon today. trying to achieve the next level of skills.

I think I would like to see a bit more space at top and bottom as well.
Oh, and maybe better not show this photo to the child's mother, she'll give you what-for for not wiping off his mouth first ;-)

And applying duct tape to cover it will not help because it's woven from threads and the camera sees right through.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe that for a moment. Can you see through duct tape yourself, even if it is held up against the light? Neither can your camera, whether it's in a tablet, iPad or your P&S.
And if you don't trust the duct tape, get a small circle of cardboard and just stick it in place with regular scotch tape.

I don't think these are crop sizing marks. If you enlarge the image you will hopefully see what I am seeing. They are colored squares that look like pieces of some image files.

On the download image, the corner squares are plain white, the squares on top bottom and sides are half white, half blue-grey, with the division between the two colours exactly on the edge of the image. There is no sign of an image inside these squares, not even when I enlarge a lot.

Ive attached a store original screen shot so you can hopefully see the little artifacts at the corners and the center of the image.

You mean the 8 white squares on the corners and in the middle of the top, bottom and sides?
I'm sorry but there is no way they are artifacts. Artifacts are not nicely divided like these, they are random.
Have you actually tried to grab one of these squares with your curson an pull it away towards the outside? I still believe they are cropping marks, or Move tool marks.
Something else you might try, is to reset ALL tools. If you don't know how to do that in PS6, hopefully someone else does - I've only ever PS for a week or so, a very long time ago, and can't even remember what version that was.

There are a couple of (dust?)spots in the image that should be cloned out.
Personally, I would like to see some clouds behind the bird, to give the photo some perspective. Unfortunately, we can't just call up the clouds when we want them...
Also some more definition in the bird's face.
I kind of expected a specific question about this photo (as per the rules for this section) - do you have one?

not sure if this is the right section - sorry to mods if not. I am looking for a suitable online storage for photos from several people to store and access up and download from - any recommendations would be most welcome.

Many thanks in advance

Dropbox will let you make a shared folder, just send the other people the link the first time, after that just tell them you've uploaded something. As well you can have other folders that are private.
2gb storage is free, you can earn more storage by recommending others, or you can buy more.
My brother, sister and I use it between ourselves and it works great.
