Perfect timing on that first photo.
Don't think I have seen anything like this before. I like it!! Great job on the reflection.
Very nice photo but glad I did not see it until I finished my dinner.
Very nice photo and with semi "ring of fire". Haven't seen another photo like it so a unique capture.

Where exactly is the fire at? I am originally from South Central NM. The smoke from this fire is being credited for the hazy conditions where I now live in Arkansas, over 850 miles away.
Fire is in the Gila National Forest near the towns of Rerserve and Glenwood which are North of Silver City.
There is a 100,000 acre forest fire burning in rugged mountains about 100 miles SW of Albuquerque. (Zero containment after several days,) The wind is blowing the smoke into Albuquerque and on up to Colorado. As devastating as the fire is, it has resulted in a spectacular view of the sun the last couple of days. The first photo was taken about 90 minutes before sunset today and the second is just before the sun dropped below the horizon. There are no clouds in the sky; this is just the thick smoke blocking the sun and creating the red/pink color. Albuquerque was the perfect place for photographing the Annular Solar Eclipse. I can only imagine how beautiful the eclipse would have been if the smoke had been in the sky during the eclipse. The third photo is of the solar eclipse taken from the same spot the other two pictures were taken.

I agree on the vertical crop. The reflection is a major point of interest in the original photo.
The first is my favorite. I like how the color of the children's shirts contrast against the white sand.
This explains the mystery of why I am always finding loose screws around the house. Nice photo.
I like it and could picture this hanging on a wall. Very pleasing and easy on the eyes.
Pose is good and background is good. I think the combination of sun and shade on the face distracts from the photograph. I think it would look better if the face was all in the shade so the lighting was even across the entire face. The sun/shade on the background (and even the blouse) is fine in my opinion. It seems (to my eye) that the camera is lower than the subject's eyes and therefore is angled upwards. I would prefer to have the camera lens at the same height as the eyes. I think your fill light was on because you captured the reflected light in her eyes. These are just my opinions so take them accordingly.
Great action shots. Overall, I think you did very well for this type of event.
Both good but I like the composition of the first one better. I too would like to see this same picture with a slower shutter speed and softer lighting. I'll be waiting.
Brings back wonderful memories. I was there in '64. Makes me think I should make a return trip to Germany and Garmish.
