Totally agree with David Martin .... focus looks great on stamen tips. Depth of field issue. Use narrower aperture, and raise ISO as necessary to have sufficiently fast shutter speed. Another choice, if you have enough pixels, back away a little and later crop the image pp. A fun part of photography is finding solution to challenges. Happy shooting.

Interesting bird...in some ways unattractive, and in other ways quite pretty. Beautiful capture showing finer detail of their facial structure. I have only seen one in person and it was not this nice looking.

Thanks for sharing the set-up ... very interesting, as well as quite complex. Looks fun ... I was trained as a microscopist 50 years ago, so your gear looks intriguing to me.

That is a beautiful set. I started pursuing images of that species two years ago, when they pause near Duluth, MN on their Spring mgration north. After early Spring they spread out on the lakes north of here and are harder to locate. Your bif's are excellent.

Nice images that I know must take considerable time to produce. Have you ever shown images of your equipment set-up? Interested in getting into this side of photography, so curious what folks are using.

Beautiful shots ... looking forward to future images. I mostly shoot over in northern Minnesota, but thinking of Porcupine Mountains next Fall.

Nice set of images. A couple years ago took my first photo trip through the SW and found the arid landscapes beautiful. The beehive image shows an imbeded item dropping left to right through layers ... wonder whether that was old buried tree limb or bole. Interesting.

I find using EV compensation useful in wildlife, especially birds in flight, situations, especially if I am switching scenes quickly, including panning to follow and animal. I am using a mirrorless Nikon, and the lenses have a programmable dial on them. I like to shoot in Aperture Priority and Auto ISO, and with my left hand on the lens I can adjust the lens dial programmed for EV Compensation while I am watching the scene in the viewfinder. In these cases I have already chosen the Aperture I think is going to be best for the average situation, and then as I watch the scene change I recognize when I think I am going to blow out highlights on the animal I am focused on and adjust the EV on the move (no time to look at setting numbers and figure out best suite of settings) just reacting to what I see in the viewfinder. If I do not want ISO to slip higher than a certain amount while in auto the camera permits setting limits to its range.

Thanks for the replies. It will take me a "moment" to absorb the material in the shared post. I appreciate the help with understanding.

When resizing in PS, after selecting "Image Size" and putting in number of pixels, inches (or whatever) for dimensions and then selecting "Save" another small panel shows up with a slider for quality. I know this slider affects total image size, which is a common restraint in photo contests. What does the computer actually do to the image, since pixel dimensions are already chosen, to reduce total image size?

That is a beautiful series. It is nice when one of these critters also takes a moment to pose for a portrait to cap the series off!
