If you don't have a lightbox another alternative is a sheet of translucent white plexiglass. Put it in front of a light source (lamp, window etc) then shoot away.

I have been using Alkit in Freeport, NY for all my large print needs.

Their service is excellent....

I'm still using my Epson 2200 for large prints and an Epson Artisan 50 for general (documents, etc.) printing.

They work great, prints look good, but I hate having to replace Epson ink cartridges. Too expensive, but they will not ruin the printer. I used non-Epson ink in my last Artisan 50 and ruined the print head. So, despite what anybody else says, only original Epson ink from now on.

I pull out my 1950's Leica when the mood to shoot film strikes. The quality of the image can not be beat!

Canon was one of the first to use a pelical mirror in their cameras going back to the 60's. No mirror blackout was great for action shots. But it still has a mirror.

Sit in the rear. Put the lens as close to the glass as you can. Shoot at as high a shutter speed as your exposure allows.
Since most bus windows are tinted, be prepared to fix the color in Photoshop when working on the images.

I love my 100mm 2.8 Canon macro for portraits. I just smooth out the skin on female subjects.

He would still be shooting with an 8x10 Deardorff and using the zone system.

I had a friend who studied with Ansel learning the zone system. On the last day of the workshop, when everybody was printing in the darkroom, Ansel came up behind my friend and whispered in his ear; "do you want to know the secret of the zone system?" My friend said yes he did. And Ansel's reply was a one word answer......."bracket!"

That story always brings a smile to my face :)

Many of the photographs in Imus's book were shot with a Fuji 6x17 panoramic camera. He bought the camera from me when I worked at Alkit. I spent about an hour explaining the camera to him and answering his questions. When we were finished I handed him my business card and told him it was a pleasure to meet him and help him.

The next morning the owner of the company wanted to know what I had said to Imus. When I asked why, the owner told me that on Imus's radio show that morning he mentioned me by name. Imus told his listeners that I was uninformed and incompetent as a photographer and salesman. He ripped me on his show. Well I was Alkits head technical adviser and consultant and my boss knew I was always respectful.

Apparently "Mr. Imus" can not give credit where credit is due. So his way of paying me a compliment was by insulting me on his show.

BTW in my opinion his photographs are snapshots and not very good. I think out of his book there were only one or two images that were worthy of mention.

At least when I helped Bruce Springsteen when he was in our shop he treated me like a gentleman. Bruce is a class act. Imus is just an a**hole!!

Kodak glossy or Epson Velvet depending on subject matter.

I never heard of velvet paper. Is is actually velvet glued to paper or is it just some kind of texture that is applied to the paper in the manufacturing process, ala vinyl flooring, or...???

Epson Velvet paper has a beautiful surface for fine art photographs. You can find more information here....

Ken says that all most people (common folk, not professionals) really need is a camera that has 3-6 megapixels for their photos. Do you agree with this? Why or why not? Also, for my own understanding of these kinds of things, if I am considering purchasing either a Nikon D5100 or the new D3200, does the D3200 have any advantage since it has 24 megapixels as compared to the 16 in the D5100? In other words, what differences would I notice in my photos between the two? If you can provide a photo of a lower pixel camera and a higher one to show any differences, that would be appreciated.

I disagree completely...no body needs a camera, period. The so-called "need" is actually a desire to cling to occasions that bring pleasurable memories to the front of the mind. That's all commie BS. Anyone who has a camera is a dirty red commie especially anyone who buys a camera made in Asia where all the commies are.

So if "nobody needs a camera", WHY are you in this forum?
