What are the benefits or non benefits of using a UV Filter.
I have taken identical photo`s with the filter on and the filter off.
Can`t seem to see any difference when viewing my photo`s.
Help please.
Also, Thank you in anticipation for any replies.

I have one on my DSLR but only to protect the lens. I use a lens hood too, almost religiously in fact. I am a kind-of belt and suspenders guy... If I am taking an 'artsey' photo where ultimate precision is desired, I will take it off. If using a CPL filter, the UV comes off so I don't start stacking glass. I have an old one that has a nasty scratch in it that I have no idea when or where it occurred and that informs me to keep the filter on the lens. The attached photo was taken in 1973 on the flank of Mt. Whitney at about 10K ft. elevation with a simple Kodak point and shoot. It demonstrates where a good UV filter would have been beneficial.. for film cameras. As others have said, not needed for digital images but for unconsciously klutzy people like me, a good insurance policy.

Anyone using the new Canon 6D2 built in HDR? Does it work? I am thinking about buying one.

I have the 6D2 and the HDR does work but not as dramatically as you can produce in PP with several images in RAW. There are some creative filters inside the camera programing but I don't use them as I have been wanting real looking scenes but with an expanded dynamic range. I rarely use it but like that I have it in the camera. That it only works on JPEG photos is not an issue as I by necessity have to produce JPEGS for my employer. If/when I produce a HDR for my own artistic purposes I may use the in camera HDR but also take a series of individual images in RAW to hedge my bets and compare and contrast the results. I know you are on the fence about the 6D2. Buy it. One of the features I have used several times it the wireless control I have through my cell phone app. This came in handy when I was photographing highly reflective china cabinets where I didn't want to be reflected in the glass/mirrors. So I set up and left the room. The reflection of the camera was minimal and in several photos, easily removed.

I usually do my own photos for my MLS listings... but there are times when I use TourFactory for the photos... and one of the TourFactory photogs uses a tilt-shift lens with wonderful results. Sorry that I can't offer any first-hand experience, and I too may do a little more research... this video might help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvV5sINKnT8

Canon! are you listening??? Why not make a teleconverter-like Tilt-Shift mechanism so we can affix different lenses to the TS mechanicals? Seems to me it would be a brilliant piece of equipment. Perhaps the more informed Hogs can state why this cannot work with existing lenses?

have you considered a tile-shift lens?

Tilt-Shift lens... Please do comment as this is another thing I have contemplated. BIG $$$ holds me back.

Here you can see a larger image , it's a vertical lift bridge for railway, it lifts up when ships need to pass...

Thanks for the info. I thought it might be something like that. Here is a photo of a similar but much older bridge in Duluth, MN shown in its up position.

I work with an auction company. We often sell old cameras and even darkroom equipment from time to time. I do not wish to be a doomsayer here but I do encourage you to manage your expectations regarding the amount of money you will get for these items regardless of how you sell, by item or in bulk. There are few who still shoot film but your potential buyers are more likely to be collectors. One of ours was a decorator and she bought them to use as decorative items only. I am always disappointed by the low prices we get for film cameras as so many of them are marvelous pieces of history and others have been wonderful examples of cutting edge technology in their day. Good luck

A couple of months ago I posted my experience here of taking photos at a wedding vow renewal ceremony. It was my first effort. I attended as a guest and merely brought my camera to take photos of the historic chapel PRIOR to the ceremony and before most guests arrived. In fact as the time of the ceremony approached I put my camera back in the camera bag and settled in to watch the celebration. I knew the photographer was late and then realized (s)he was a no show at the moment the couple started strolling down the aisle. So I right or wrong jumped in and took out my camera and started shooting. A lot less than ideal as I had no forethought or consultation with anybody. All I knew was that they had engaged a "pro" and they failed to show.

I would not have taken any photos at the ceremony had the pro shown up. I can also say that I noticed a lot of guests taking photos with their smartphones and I suspect a few actually took videos. I encouraged the couple to reach out to their guests to have them email photos they took with their phones. The couple was grateful I stepped up and pleased with the photos I provided but it was an extraordinary circumstance. It did inform me that doing wedding photography was not something I was interested in doing and these folks were easy. I never learned why the pro was a no show.

Hi again. I am looking at the Canon 6D body for around $1K not sure what lens. Looks like around $2k for the body and lens.

I was one of the first people here to buy the 6D2. I got it with the 24-105 lens. I am pleased with it. I just got the 16-35 f/4L lens for Christmas and it is a great lens and highly recommended by any number of hogs here. I have been thinking about trying my hand at real estate photography but honestly don't know how to break into the field or how to price my work. Not to hijack the post but suggestions from you pros would be welcome. BTW I live in Louisville so I don't think I would be your competition...

To the OP: Yes I have great difficulty connecting via WiFi my 6DII and my computer. I have done it twice but both times it took a lot of fooling around and by the time the connection was established I had forgotten exactly the order in which I tried things in that iteration. I do connect to my cell phone for remote operation quite easily so I don't understand why the computer is such a problem. I get frustrated fooling with it and then just succumb to connecting via USB cable.

Hi Boots. Do you have a metallurgical microscope you will be shooting through? I was a crime scene investigator and now teach forensic science. I usually just lurk about on this group and seldom post. Welcome.
