I use Amazon for a lot of things. Some are cut and dry, but it is nice to be able to depend on the reviews if it is not. I've found FakeSpot helpful. It only works for Amazon and Yelp, but the results might help you separate "ratings" from "promotions."

In addition to stocking your grandson up with good photography books, you might want guide him to the vast amount of knowledge that is online in the form of reviews and how-to videos. I just finished a FREE audio/video book that I found because I wanted to better myself using my Nikon speedlight:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxSFA-q47A4I think everyone would agree that there are probably a lot more people that should not be making videos than there are those who should have not written/published a hardcopy, but that is not to say there is no good information out there. It might just be that Grandma might have to help him choose from time to time. Good luck to you and your grandson!
Wellcome to the group! Looking forward to seeing some of your Australian landscapes...

Very nice! I've heard the name for years, but never knew what it looked like. Your use of shallow depth of field really makes it pop!

Well, the sign DID have some help courtesy of Affinity Photo...
I couldn't resist helping the NM Highway Department out with that road sign...
It appears to be a Spotted Cucumber Beetle...
Nice shot! I love Big Bend, but I haven't had my camera there yet. Need to pack up the camper and head that way when it cools off. Gotta be a great place for Milky Way photography...
Thanks to all for the kind comments, and thank you James56 for the added information! We came up your way to see our very first total eclipse, but we were pleasantly surprised to find so many beautiful places and truly hospitable people. I can't wait to get back up your way again.
And thanks for your prayers -- for a hurricane that brought so much destruction just two hours south of us, it brought little to NW San Antonio. To date, we have received less than 1" of rain, and winds that probably would not have disturbed all the backyard plants and furniture that we went to the trouble to move or secure. We continue to pray for all those between Corpus Christi and Houston that really need help and support now. It's a mess down that way...
