I have a Nikon D3300 and a Nikon wireless mobile adapter. wu-1a.. Until a week ago it work fine. Then it quit and I get a message stating, Unable to join the network "Nikon_wu_2288640". Can any one help me? I am using an IPad to store the pictures.
Apple released a new iOS operating system (for iPads and iPhones) in the last week that rendered a number of apps inoperable if they have not been updated to keep pace - that might explain the issue you are experiencing. See if the Nikon website has an update or patch to fix the problem.

Make sure all of your apps are current. i.e. no updates pending. Do a hard reboot on all devices. Then log each device out and log back in.
It can sometimes be an infuriating process.
Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Enter the devices passcode and confirm the reset.
Let the iPhone/iPad restart, you'll see a spinning cursor on the device as it finishes the reset before the device boots back on.
Go back to Settings > Wi-Fi and join the network again.
Take another WiFi enabled device like a laptop or another smartphone, and look at the other WiFi devices broadcasting in your immediate area. If you do not see your adapter's SSID being advertised when the camera is turned on and the LED is not red, the adapter may be dead. Or do you see any other SSID starting with Nikon_WU something being advertised? You might need to restore the adapter to defaults by holding the WPS button for 10+ seconds, then press again when the LED flashes. Nikon does not seen to have a detailed user guide for IOS, but the Android guide might hold an acorn.

No, I am not a Nikon guy, but a long time IT network engineer and this is how I look at network problems. That adapter is doing all the functions of a device network interface plus what usually happens in your WiFi router in one little device.
