I agree that there is no bad light - just bad use of existing light. You used the flat light here to perfection and the background works very well. Stay warm, stay safe and keep posting.

These are great images. Only a few years younger than you so this is very inspiring! Keep posting, stay safe, and stay well.

Isn’t Baltimore in the other direction?
Just kidding.

The second image is a pose we seldom see - an HB sitting quietly - and a great composition! Thanks for sharing.

I've been out in the field taking lots of photos over the last couple of weeks so I haven't posted anything, but I thought these photos of an Allen's Hummingbird taken in the wind at the Shipley Nature Center in Huntington Beach, CA were worth sharing...especially because I know a number of our UHH members are lovers of Hummingbirds. Hope you like them.

Would it have cracked you up if he had hit and killed the bird?
Is scaring birds in their environment a goal of photography?

Yes he was....I was cracking up because I knew the shot would scare him. Just didn't realize how high he would jump

I love how the triangle of the roof mimics and points towards the triangular mountain. A great POV and the B/W choice is perfect!
Thanks for sharing.

The other day was cold and overcast with a few snow flurries thrown in as well. I went out with the specific intent to find subjects that would work well in b&w. I thought the weather and the monochromatic lighting would be helpful to this search. Whaddya think?

Don't know why the thumbnail is so small - download for best view, I guess...

I agree. I was trying to keep the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts (unusual shaped building upper right) in the frame as it is a well known and recognizable part of the cityscape.

If you don't mind I would like to play with this image to reduce the impact of the line at the right.

The lines on the right lead the eye out of the image and conflict with those in the middle. If this were my image I would crop so that the middle leading Lines end at a PowerPoint 1/3 in from the right, and then remove or darken the remaining light streaks on the right.

I tried something that I had never done in making this image using an Olympus OMD E1 MKIII and “Live Composite.” The feature is fun to use but I paid attention to a certain detail and now I wonder, even though I know my detail was correct, if there is a sense of conflict in the image. Any thoughts or comments welcome.

For some reason I like #9, the B/W version of #4 even more? Just me or do others agree?

Ah well, since I was twiddling my thumbs as the eternal backups continue, I decided to revisit some shots taken in January 2013 in the Rouge Valley. This is a scenic park which offers great photo ops all-year-round.
Nikon D90 Nikkor 50mm ƒf1.8 and Sigma 10-20mm lenses. Hand-held ISO 200.
Please feel free to critique and/or comment.
Enjoy.

The only source for shutter count on the 80D seems to be at https://www.direstudio.com/shutter count/

Just received your check today and sadly put it through my shredder.
Maybe you could do me a favor and ask the people who you are purchasing the new 80D how to find the shutter count. I looked all over. My camera has no more than 2000, because I had several other cameras I used including a brand new FF 6DmkII.

Great shots. N3 looks like a red brick apartment complex.

I’m sorry but I’ve decided to purchase a new 80D where I know the shutter count. Please tear up the check.
Again I’m sorry if I caused any problems with your desire to sell this equipment.

If the goal is to simply learn how to edit in raw, Adobe Bridge will open a jpg (open in camera raw) allowing the use of all Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) functions.

I have a photograph taken in 2006 with a Lumix camera in England before I met Jean and subsequently came to be in the USA. Jim, of our local Caveman Camera Club, wishes to use the photograph in an exercise to see how we members of the Club edit the image.

But Jim requires the image to be converted to ‘RAW’ format.

I am using DxO PhotoLab 4, which is splendid for my Nikon files, but I don’t have a clue as to whether I can do anything with that Lumix image.

Any ideas would be more than welcome.

(I should add that it is a little after 4 am and I am not yet out of bed!)

Upload an image taken with the camera and they can give you the number of clicks using the metadata.
