If your lens is sharp on camera A and not sharp on Camera B, what has changed? Did the lens change? NOoo! Then, why calibrate the lens?

Compare camera A with Camera B with a Different High Quality lens: Are the images equal between the cameras or is Camera B again softer?

Perhaps you should seek to find out why camera B is different rather than just arbitrarily calibrating the lens; what happens if the lens is calibrated and is then soft on both cameras? Now, you are worse off!

You did do your homework, so you know that the D800 has a lo pass filter while the D810 does not. The D810 also has a newer processor (probably to account for the lack of Low Pass Filter); it is far more likely that the differences you see are between the cameras and NOT in a single lens!.

The point is, you know the lens works fine in one setting but not in another, and you know there are differences in light accumulation and processing in one camera compared to the other. There is no justifiable reason to think the lens somehow goes out of calibration by attaching to a different camera - what if you want to use it again on your D800? Do you need to get it calibrated every time you change?
If your lens is sharp on camera A and not sharp on... (show quote)

You show that you have no idea how calibration works. The camera body is calibrated to the lens and you can calibrate several lenses to a body. Nothing is changed on the lens. Micro adjustments are needed at times to get the lens as sharp as possible on a camera body.

The focus does look a little on the soft side. I am guessing that you have cropped the images to only show the diver. In doing so, this can add to some softness if it is present (makes it more noticeable). I am wondering your focusing choice - I am not a Nikon shooter and know Canon does things a little different, but I am sure you have many options to choose how the camera is focusing. In Canon, I have different cases I can choose from as to how the camera will focus in the continuing focus mode (AIServo), I am sure that Nikon is the same. It is not easy to stay focused on one person when completely zoomed out (200mm) and you are not mere feet away. Another possibility is that the lens may need to be calibrated to your camera body. You can do that yourself or a local camera store can do it for you.
You should have no problems with getting a clear image even at 2.8 - everything just needs to be set correctly. Your pictures are still excellent and you have nice isolation, but it would bother me too and would want my subject tack sharp too.

Kenai Fjords Tours is the largest outfit and does an excellent job. If they see something they will circle around and really try hard to let you see things. http://www.kenaifjords.com

If you purchased the camera from your local store, they will most likely calibrate the lens to your camera for no charge. It is pretty quick to do and if you feel comfortable doing it, you can do it yourself.

I have not read through all the posts, so this might be a repeat. Legal or not, the mother asked you to delete a picture of her child, the best thing to do in that case is to delete the picture. There is no reason for the police to get involved, whether you were in the right or wrong, you should have just dealt with the mothers' request and deleted the picture. We never know what the parents reasons may be, but they obviously have them.

I (like many others have) would recommend the 24-70 f/2.8 because it will give you the best in terms of low light and you will run into low light everywhere! Last time I went, I used my 24-105 the whole time and never changed my lens once. It was a pain to have to shlep all the other lenses thinking that I would use them at some point. Nope. Enjoy your trip!!

Depending on your "flavor" of photography. Your best sales may happen locally. Try galleries or open air markets.

Just found shutter count by Dire Studios, grabbed it for my Mac & Canon 80D, and yes indeed it will show the shutter count.

I know that worrying about the shutter count is not productive, but like the mileage & actual gas mileage on my car, I want to know, so I now can know my shutter count. Why Canon does not take a page from Nikon and just put the shutter count into the EXIF of each image is beyond me.

2.99 is cheap in my book!

Thanks for sharing that it works with your newer camera. I have had this app for my 6D and had tried my new 5DIV, but it wasn't updated yet. Just tried ShutterCount again and it worked! Now I know, almost 31,000 on my less than one year old camera. I knew it would be high since I shoot a lot of sports.
Thanks again!

I have to agree with the composition being better in #1. The haloing around the hill is a little bothersome and distracting. Both photos, to me, feel top heavy.

I have used Nations Photo Lab a couple of times for Large (24x30 and 16x30) aluminum metal prints. They do an excellent job and at times will have 40% off coupons to save on the cost. They usually take about 1-2 weeks in getting back to me and packaged very well. Happy customer!

Are you using in camera sharpening? If so, I would turn it off. You should be able to get a nice sharp picture without it turned on with your lens/camera combo.

The one major issue that I have with my 3 is exposure Comp. There is no quick and easy way to use EC. I don't know if the 4 has corrected this problem.

Isn't there a "Q" button to quickly get into and change things like that?

I told a friend my new camera does (24) 20mp frames per second and he told me I was nuts !!

OK, I guess I missed the purpose of the post. Sounds like a lot of culling and post processing. Enjoy!
