Any recommendations for a camera backpack (?) for a female? I typically carry a DSLR camera and four lenses (the 210mm the longest), along with some small accessories (extra battery, lens cleaner kit, charger, etc.), and I would like to carry a tripod (24 inches). I don't need to carry a laptop or tablet or a water bottle. I shoot on a boat a lot, and when we dock at a marina, we like to walk and/or ride bicycle (on these outings I don't always carry all my lenses). I only fly maybe once or twice a year, but it would be nice to have a backpack I could stow under the seat. I have checked out these brands: Tenba, G-raphy, Case Logic, Digiant, Thinktank, Mindshift Gear, Lovepro, and Tamrac. Perhaps a "messenger bag" style would suit my needs better? Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I do not use a backpack for camera gear, but many love them. I will say look for one that makes a backpack for women. My wife and I use backpacks for general travel. We picked up packs by Deuter when IN Germany a few years ago. She got one of theirs built or women and it fits her much better than a other packs she has tried.

I think f-stop does. I am not sure who else.

I like LowePro backpacks, and I also have a couple of messenger bags - one came free with a D750. You can't go wrong on quality with a name brand. Just check to interior size and features - pockets, etc.

I would suggest you get a pack that fits you first, then get the OP/Tec foam covers for your equipment, much more versatile and less attention getting, Bob

Nice looking backpack. Look under "in the field" to see how it fits the model (woman).

The B&H mega store in NYC has an amazing number of backpacks on display that you can touch and inspect and very knowledgeable help. If you ever get to NYC you should take a look.

If you go to NYC, how can you not drop in at B&H and/or Admorama? (Just not on Saturday.)

Not a woman, but I can tell you that backpacks fit differently. I wouldn't necessarily just order something because someone on a forum said they liked theirs. I would suggest you go to a camera store (if you can still find one without heading to the big city)... ours just closed this week... and try them on. I think the comfort and fit, especially if riding a bicycle will be every bit, if not more, important than capacity. You can always pack less if you know where you are going, but hating to carry it means you won't want to take it with you at all.

Like I said, I'm not a woman, but I'm "fluffy" and not all backpacks are comfortable for me to carry.

Ditto this. Go to a store and try some. Look at the insides and try to picture whether or not all of your equipment will fit in the little cubby's. It looks like the link for that woman's backpack puts the straps in a different place that may or may not be more comfortable for you. Try putting on some regular backpacks and see if they are uncomfortable or not. I can't really see that one being more comfortable since it puts all the weight way out on your shoulders. If you have really sensitive breasts and can't have straps touching them, maybe it is the one. But I've seen most women use normal backpacks with no problems.

I suggest the Lowepro and Tamrac products. They are simply the best made and most popular. They have many to choose from. I have 3 or 4 Lowepro bags and a couple of Tamrac bags. I do own a couple of off brand bags too but they are specialty bags for one purpose only. I also have a Canon bag that used to belong to my sister that I use for all speedlites.

Go and try them under load. An empty backpack feels fine.

Thanks to all who responded...great advice that has added a whole new dimension to my search. I was ready to rush into ordering one based on customer reviews, but after absorbing all of your responses, I need to give this a lot more thought!

I fly a couple times a year. Purchased a Peak Design backpack last year as a kickstarter promotion. Fits under airline seat easily and holds my D500 along with 3 or 4 lenses and room for other items. Tripod can be strapped to outside of backpack with attached straps. I love it.
