I used my Canon 30D with the 300 2.8 with the 2X converter on it. I haven't been to the zoo since I got the Canon 5D Mark II. Can't wait to give it a shot. Thanks for your comments.

The shots of the lions made me think this would be a good topic. Feel free to post your zoo shots! I also like seeing other shots.

If it is ok for others to work on your photograph just note that it is ok when you post it. Then you don't have to wait for someone to ask. I like seeiing what others can do, and look at it as another way to learn. But I do feel it is rude to do so without asking!!!

He was my favorite animal to photograph at the zoo in Pittsburgh, Pa. I was told that my voice sounded like one of his handlers. So everytime I would say something to him he would usually respond to me. It was a sad day for me when the zoo had to put him down. He was old and they say he was in a lot of pain.

I took this using a Canon 30D with aCanon 300 mm 2.8 with a Canon 2X converter on it also shot thru glass.

Nice shot, I have some lions myself. If you like I will post. The male lion was my favorite animal to photograph at the Pittsburgh zoo! He was an old fellow and they had to put him down for health related issues. I miss him a lot. My voice sounds like one of his handlers so he would always respond to my voice.

This shot was taken in Big Beaver, Pa. The name of this location is Summit Cut. Big Beaver is located about 45 miles North of Pittsburgh, Pa. One of the camera clubs that I belong to had a topic of ice that we had to shoot. I knew of this place and I titled this shot Ice Canyon. It took first place!

I shoot Canon, but there is a big difference in the photos. The first 2 are by far the sharpest. As with most of us money is tight. I only have the L series lenses, I purchased my first one in 2004 and could not believe the difference. I feel the cost is worth it!!! What I try to do when I want a new lens is set aside the money that the normal lens would cost and when I have some extra cash I throw it in the "L" series fund. I will do without until I can get that L series lens. Not only are the lenses sharper they are better built, but have seals to keep out dust and moisture. The only con is that they are a good bit heavier than the regular lenses!

The learning curve is much faster with the DSLR over the 35mm. As mentioned in other posts film can get expensive, so if you can resists putting it in auto modes digital is the way to go. I still shoot like I am shooting film because I do not want to sit in front of the computer all day fixing the photographs in photoshop. I like to shoot in manual mode just as I did when shooting film. You will find that the workflow will be much faster. All the rules apply to the digital photograph that apply to film photographs. When you use digital all the info about the shot stays with the file so with just one click you know all the camera settings what lens you used and what the ISO was set at. Shooting film you would have to write all this info down for each shot. So to sum this all up I would say DSLR , shoot manual as much as possible, and have fun!!!
