Steve, I'm glad you pointed me to this post. I really like Spoonbill. The only time I ever saw them was on a visit to the Alligator Farm. Which brings us to the Alligator.
Nice shots. I prefer the last two as you are shooting more eye to eye with the birds, instead of shooting down at them.

I have to agree - but I don't want wade into the water - it would scare the birds and might NOT scare the very large gators! See my other post today, which did not stay up for long. : http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-364669-1.html
What is inside of the "nut"? It looks like it is related to the lychee. It also looks like the seed pods I saw used in the Amazon about 30 years ago for ornamentation with the Yagua. These seed pods had a bright red center which was used for body paint. These old photos were scanned from transparencies years ago.
Having walked around the wetlands several times a week for the past few months I am learning the hangouts of a number of birds, including several green herons. They are always fun to watch. The first one lunged for a small fish and caught him, but had a bill full of weeds - he dropped them all and quickly re-caught the fish.
It was a little cloudy yesterday afternoon, but the Viera Wetlands is always exciting. The usual suspects were there, plus a few I haven't seen in a while: Limpkins and hooded mergansers (did not get good photos of them, unfortunately).
It is a beautiful lens. It is available from several sellers on Amazon for about $600 as a "white box" item meaning it has been separated out of a package but is still a Canon USA product. I bought one like this and had no difficulty registering it on the Canon website. It IS a really nice lens.
I don't know who told you that you were an art critic, but you have not the slightest clue. I have been making a living..and a good one..for over fifty years as a painter and teacher. My work is collected and admired the world over. Some of my stuff has sold for over $30k. So who the heck are YOU, based on looking at ten samples, to judge my work?
So much about "negative commentary" in this forum. You won't see more.
Goodbye.
By the way...Pablo Picasso once said that he had "...spent his whole life learning to paint like a child."

RELAX! You know what they say about opinions! And this forum is full of "opinionated" people, and some of them can be snarky or downright nasty. Maybe you should be in an art blog and not a photo blog - but I for one like your work. But you will always encounter people whose idea of art is a realistic painting of a cow.
Sounds like a GREAT road trip! The bears will be great at Brooks. We were up there that time of year and were not bothered by mosquitoes. But my recommendation is to take the little DEET wipes packets. You can keep a few handy and just pull one out if you need it. They are also not greasy, which is important if you are handling you camera equipment!
Nice set! It is an interesting and fun place to visit! That will probably change over the next ten years as the country gets flooded with American tourists and money.
