Great post, Bob. Although not as proficient in the "science" of photography as some UHH members, I trudge along. Many times I see the end result as I'm hitting the shutter release, and, of course, what I see on the monitor needs alot of help later in post. This is by design, and the fact that I like to shoot fast and move on to the next target...that's my style, born of generating thousands of images on a given weekend shooting pageantry ("sports" by any other name). Reading this thread makes one thing sink home for me: We all have our different styles, but if you line the end-products up side-by-side you'd be hard pressed to determine just how the results were achieved...but it's easy to see the good ones.

Thanks William and best wishes for a happy, healthy New Year!

You listed the reasons why I bought the Z50. Without the FTZ adapter I probably would have passed on this camera. I think Nikon was smart to use the Z mount on their DX cameras, because I can buy Z lenses now and use them on a Z6 or Z7 if and when I buy one. But in the meantime, I'm just having fun shooting with this little camera.

...as you get into the Z glass the FTZ becomes less meaningful...I'm totally sold on the system (maybe *because* of the glass!). Just got the Z50 to get the crop factor into play and just love the camera...it's the one I grab out the door now, and the two kit lenses are just bitchin'! Still keeping my D5/500 combo for sports, but the Z6II works well and seems to get better and better the more I get used to the focus system (mostly the subject tracking function). You're almost down the ol' hole, brother, lol...

I have added a Nikon Z6 to my camera toolbox. I like the IBIS and the silent shutter the most. Ergonomically, it fits in my hands nicely. I also shoot with the D750 with the 24-120 lens on it mostly, as the Z6 is tripod mounted for my hummingbird photos. I have on order from lensrentals.com, a D500 with 200-500 zoom and a Z50 with the pancake lens. I want to see if I get more keepers of bird shots with the D500 and also to get a feel for the Z50. Maybe I have GAS, but in my retirement, I want to enjoy the small pleasures in life, and photography is one that I thoroughly enjoy. Being married, I don't chase women, I don't gamble, and only drink occassionally.

...I am a Z guy right from the start, finally got the Z50. You're gonna love it. Get the two lenses designed for it; you won't regret it.

15 years of Nikon equipment with much glass and never have done a calibration. That statement just speaks to the fact that nothing has ever looked soft on my monitor...unless, of course, it's my bad handling of said equipment! I'm pretty sure if I detected a problem I'd be on it, but it ain't broke yet so I'm surely not going to "fix" it, lol...

The only Epsom printer I ever had used ink like it was going out of style so I have never bought another one. I love the Epsom V600 scanner, however.

I have two; an R3000 and a P800...love them both. I have the R3000 converted fully to after market inks (through Ink Owl) and haven't yet had to make decisions like that for the P800. Epson has that model locked for after market, at least in the USA (Europe gets a pass here, go figger...) but there are alternatives and I plan to use them! ;0) I know the Canons are good, too...

Precision Colors or Owl Ink provides refillable cartridges with quality ink. In my opinion, the quality of color is equal to Epson's ink and I've used both companies and had no problems with them or my printer. The six refillable cartridges, bottles of ink, and needles cost about $100; yet, after five refills one can see how much is saved over purchasing one set of Epson ink.

I agree, InkOwl inks are great, the only place I can see a difference is in my wallet! Here's a link to a *very* knowledgable guy who knows his inks!

I own several large black Nikon lenses that have NEVER expanded, never EXCEEDED design tolerances. I have photographed Eagles nests with a black Nikon 600mm f4 while siting in full sun for hours and hours and hours without any expansion, without exceeding any tolerances.
Where do you get your information?

...yah, that was a laugh for me, too. I'm out all day sometimes with my 200-400 f4 with absolutely no problems...I mean, besides the excellent photographic results, it doesn't *feel* bigger, either! ;0)

Did you hold the back button throughout the exposures or just focus once and release the back button before shooting?

...once and go. Image turned-out great. Not a regular feature for me, but it works so well...try it!

Turned out i was wrong, but thanks!

...correct. When I did a stack, after getting everything set up in-camera and out, I pushed the back button and let 'er rip. Worked great on my Z6, no need for manual focus.
