You caught the light(s) and the feeling of the place well - a favourite city on t'other side of the pond.
Am I right in thinking #1 was shot as a panorama, and if so how many images make up the final version?

Stunningly beautiful landscapes - I especially like the light you have captured in the hills in nos. 1 and 3.

Re-motivated me to start organising a long threatened but not yet realised photographic trip in outback Oz

Thanks for lifting my spirits.

Thanks David - yours were harder subjects than mine - in particular the first had lots of foreground detail that had to be stitched together.
I drive or ride that road a couple of times a week - but you need a visitors creative eye to see the interest you captured in something I just take for granted - cheers and all the best to Dallas - Andrew

So here is my first draft of a guide that might help those starting out with panoramas.

Apologise for the length of the doc - it attempts to cover both hand held and tripod/pano head techniques - take as little or as much in as you want from it - you can skip the gear setup section if its not of interest.

I have included in the guide a simple way of making a movie of a panorama using iMovie so as to attempt to display your panorama as you would naturally turn your head to take in the full view - I will attach to this post an example of such a movie file cropped to meet the 20MB limit

One of the skills I have always wanted to have, but found a bit daunting, was learning how to get and display panoramas - fortunately you tube is awash with partial explanations which when you stitch them together will teach you what you need to know.

In a separate post I will attach v1 of what I hope brings most of those excerpts into one useful guide for beginners like me - anyone who wants to comment or make suggestions on my first pass at a comprehensive guide is most welcome.

In them meantime, 2 panoramas of the harbour where I live - the site from which the shots were taken is here if you want to paste these co-ords into google maps; -33.842873, 151.185561

That feeling when -

You have researched carefully to try something new (using HSS, with speed lights to achieve a low key background) - watched you tube to death, read all the blogs on the subject, feeling confident ... I can do this ...

Set up the whole session, with a model, set shutter to 1/8000 and EVF and rear display on the mirrorless of course both go black as night - ahhhh, there was something in that stuff I researched about overcoming that problem.... but what was it exactly?

Search web history, cannot find reference, search on line manuals of camera and speed lights, cannot find setting needed

In desperation, post request for help on a web site (like this one, but camera specific).

Reply posted in under 2 minutes, just saying "Manual, page 271"; they were kind enough not to use the acronym RTFM.

Resume session, trying to look like I have everything under control ...

At the risk of adding another contender, I decided to use Peak Design base plates (sort of a 4 way Arca plate) on all my gear incl tripod and monopod heads (PD plates attach to any Arca Swiss receptor). Also have the added bonus of being able to clip gear to a belt or back pack strap when changing lenses or other gear.
Also use their hand strap called a "clutch" which loops into the capture plate which is permanently attached to the camera base - detail here - https://www.peakdesign.com/collections/straps/products/clutch

Short review of the whole system here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fizRPGpyhNE&t=38s

Have tried the Manfrotto system but this alternative is one of best shared attachment systems going IMHO

+1 on the request for details as to how to get there - been on my bucket list since release of the Motorcycle Diaries movie - any suggestions welcome

Your photos are having much the same effect as the MD movie had on me!

Some one told me since the iPhone 5 or 6 the photo sensor used by Apple is made by Sony and the quality of those sensors is sort of killing the point and shoot market.

A great image, and so evocative of an era that inspired so many of us right around the world - thanks for posting.

Funny thing about the disagreements was that there was much more respect and restraint shown face to face, than you typically encounter on-line.

There was of course one guy who demanded that I leave because with a long lens and a pole to support it I clearly must be from the security services spying ... [sigh] ....

Idea was to go a town hall political discussion, where a variety of speakers get a microphone, and the opportunity to debate with an engaged audience; my concept was to capture speaker and an engaged audience member, then put the speaking heads together in the same image.

Federal election here in 5 days time, minor and sort of fringe parties given an opportunity on a soap box (short ladder actually) by the city council in the sunny corner of a local park - public and media invited.

So here are some my initial attempts - I will try and give you some idea of what was being said in the description of each.

Worth persevering with the concept?

Excellent detail, and also showing how they sort of sociably graze together.

Someone once told me they are a form of geese, not ducks, but once named a duck, it stuck.

Am currently using the old Lr 6 with Luminar v3 as a plug in for more detailed edits - trying to keep in the pay once and only upgrade when justified side of the debate.
Agree with tomad that Luminar's cataloguing capabilities still behind Lr but they have that on their road map and my idea FWIW is since the two programs play nicely together to keep both, and have Luminar's new but not fully developed DAM ability as Plan B if Lr 6 is ever abandoned by Adobe (for example Lr 6 is a 32 bit app on a mac and Apple keep threatening with each upgrade of OSX to abandon support for 32 bit apps).

1. A gimbal head on your tripod improves the prospects of getting the shots you want - there is a trick in getting just the right amount of play and the amount of friction in the head, but with a long lens it saves your arms and improves your aim over a full day.
2. Found it necessary to switch quickly between burst and single shot modes (I am new to the concept of frames per second) - and of the 2 modes, I got more consistent results with the single shot because I thought more about the basics - a bit like a carefully aimed shot with a rifle being way more effective than full auto fire.
3. Shot all these with a Fuji 100-400 zoom - thought about adding in the 2x teleconverter but I suspect that is going to make getting locked on to my target more difficult at the higher focal lengths - is there a consensus out there about using teleconverters for fast moving action shots?
Definitely going back next year - it was fun and being prepared better and anticipating more would help.
Oh, and I have new found respect for ground located AA gunners - theirs' would not be an easy job!

Just on the Sirui - if you buy a W series tripod one of their features is that one of the legs is made to unscrew from the tripod, and the centre column then slips into the single leg so that your same tripod head is then your monopod head. Example is here -

https://preview.tinyurl.com/yxaoy8t9

Have found a monopod really useful when sitting in a stand watching sports or at a concert - when you need to stabilise the shot, but not enough real estate to set up the tripod - one purchase that covers both needs is good value IMHO. I have attached a snapshot of mine changed from a tripod to a monopod (with surplus bipod). Other brands may do this as well - hope you find something that works for you
