I have finally decided to muddle through purchasing a tripod system. I need help with quick release clamps and plates. I am thinking of purchasing an FLM CB-32 F ball head. I will need an arca quick release clamp and plate. I will be using my Canon 7D Mark II. I will also be using the Canon tripod mount rings B and D.
FLM has a 40 and a 60 quick release clamp that is compatible with arca plates. And there are a gazillion other quick release clamps out there.
And then I need to buy an arca plate for the 7DMII. Again -- a gazillion choices.
I need recommendations for a good quality clamp and plate -- something I'm not gonna have problems with that will work with my equipment. Do you have any?
Really Right Stuff, available thru B&H. Pricey but well made.

I agree wholeheartedly! I have the BH-55 on my tripod, and a RRS ball head on my monopod.

What is the longest lens (make, model & focal length) you will be using. What is your budget for your head? It might also be to your advantage looking at an arca-swiss L bracket.

RRS makes great products, no argument here. But for price and quality I would also check out Pro Media Gear.

In addition to the aforementioned Really Right Stuff, I can also recommend the ball heads made by Arcatech and the very durable, inexpensive camera plates made by Hejnar Photo. Good luck, Ralph
I have one of these on each of my cameras, including my 4x5s.
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/391058-REG/Arca_Swiss_802208_Square_Camera_Plate_1_4.htmlI have been using this on my tripod for probably 3-4 years. It's also on my micro adjust positioning table, along with the above mentioned plate.
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/342302-REG/Arca_Swiss_802010_Quick_Release_with_Flip_lock.htmlI've never had a problem with any of the Arca-Swiss equipment.

I grew unhappy in the world of different systems and when I hit the third, arca-swiss, with Wimberley, I threw in the towel and went fully arca-swiss. RRS is ridiculously priced, but after a couple years of enjoying the convenient compatibility between my carry strap, tripod, body-pod, L-plates, monopod, and ball head products they offer, I am quite pleased. (Yes, I listed carry strap in reference to a shoulder strap with an a-s clamp that affixes to an L-plate or lens foot.) I also have RRS quick release lever adapters on my ball head and gimbal that allow for quick and easy changing or just breaking down my gear. Happy and broke...
I've used Kirk Enterprises for 25 years. High quality and high prices, but less than RRS.
Not knowing the difference, I purchased Manfrotto's QR, and I have been happy with it for camera and telephoto mount. If someone has used Arca-Swiss and another system, it may be helpful to the OP (And me!)

I think a difficult factor is that many of us never know is what we will end up with for equipment. When I started, I had no desire for long lenses, wide angle lenses, gimbal heads, etc. After fifteen or so lenses, three different qr systems, several L-plates, three tripods and five cameras in seven years, I would like to think I am a little smarter. Probably wishful thinking...
Standardizing qr systems from the beginning never crossed my inexperienced mind, nor did a really good tripod.
Meanwhile, I'm having a lot of fun and wish you the same pleasures!

Wimberly also makes all sorts and length of them and they are less pricey!
I started with Manfrotto not knowing any better. Last year I swapped completely over to a-s and have never looked back. With the exception of a couple of items all my a-s is brand X. I tend to put as big a plate or clamp as the camera or tripod will bear eg 60mm clamps on my sturdiest tripods and as large a plate as possible on the cameras. I really regret the money I spent on the Manfrotto system and wish I had checked this out before starting. About the only thing I have had less than sterling performance from is the quick release type of a-s clamps but that might just be me.
I can mix & match any camera, lens, tripod, binoculars, video camera, macro gear. You cannot do this with any other QR system.

Being a newbie here for my tripod purchase, I want to make sure I understand. You're saying you were unhappy with other manufacturers of arca swiss compatible/style plates and clamps and switched over to Arca Swiss brand, correct? What were you unhappy with -- the other manufacturers were not compatible with each other?? Is RRS Arca Swiss?

These are my longest lenses: Canon EF100mm f2.8L MACRO IS USM, Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5×, and Canon EF-S 55-250 IS STM. I am hoping to purchase a Canon 100 - 400 or Sigma 150 - 600 in the future. Yes, I do want to get an L bracket.
