I need an 850.

I need a 5DIV or a 5DSR, and 3 fast Canon primes, a 24-105mm L, and a 100 - 400L. Unfortunately my Santa doesn’t read UHH!

I've been told I need cataract surgery. My doc asked if I wanted to improve distance or near vision. I told him I was a photographer so my initial response was distance vision. But then I thought about all the menus and buttons on the camera that would near close-up vision. My goal would be to not have use glasses at all when out shooting. How did other UHH handle this quagmire?

I went for distance and just use readers for menus. I wanted to drive, run, and wake up and not have to reach for glasses. You can even get sunglasses with readers on the bottom so you can read outside. But for almost anything else I don’t need glasses.

I kept reading advertisements and receiving daily emails from Adorama stating that they were giving incentives and additional trade-in allowances if you trade certain Nikon cameras for the new d850. I have a d810 and a d500 and both were on their "list" so I thought I'd call and see "what's the catch?" I got a return phone call saying I could get "up to" a specified amount for trade-in. Now, many of you know I take excellent care of my equipment so I'm thinking wow, I could have a d850 and do a nearly even trade. They said they would pay UPS shipping both ways and I would be put on a "priority" list for the d850. So I sent both cameras to them on Aug 29th. I watched the tracking and confirmed that they received the cameras no more than 4 days later. I waited, I called, waited, called and waited some more. They said it could take 5 days for the cameras to be appraised. 7 days later I get call saying if I trade in for the d850, I would still owe a little over $1000 WITH the trades. I said no, please send them back to me ASAP. They confirmed my address and said I'd have a tracking number within 48 hours. I called another five days later and they again made me the same offer. I told them that I had heard this same offer five days ago and had asked the items be sent back to me. They confirmed my address again. They finally shipped them and I received them TODAY. Please be aware of how much time and trouble and how deceptive this process is. It took me exactly three weeks to get my cameras back.

Sorry for your trouble, hassle, and disappointment.
I’m now on the KEH email list. I’ve heard Hogg’s mention KEH as a good place to buy use and refurbished. Just for jollies, I just did a search about what I could get for my 3 month old Canon, bought new, now with about 1200 shutter activations, excellent + condition with all original box and manual. At best, I’d get 50% what I paid for it.

Yes, the large camera companies have to get their costs covered and make money, but trading in equipment is a tough way to recoup costs for getting a new camera. This also makes a great case for waiting awhile and buying used or refurbished because depreciation bites in the behind. Also, selling on UHH would probably be a better option but I won’t need to do that for several years.

Please don't refer to Best Buy as a camera store

Unfortunately for some of us Best Buy is nearly all that's left for a store that stocks, sells, and has department sales folks that know anything at all about cameras. I think there might just be one other local camera store here in a city with under a million residents.

Since Best Buy is much closer to me and actually has parking I go in occasionally and look dreamily at cameras.

Thank you so much. It was taken from my balcony in North Albuquerque Acres. We have great mountain and city views, but I'm trying to learn PP to get the power lines out of my shots.

I read UHH to learn and to occupy some free time between chores, online classes, workouts and playing with my camera. I read most new posts in the Main Photography section including topics that have next to nothing to do with my level - amateur, my choice of kit - Canon crop sensor, or my choice of what do photograph, because I'm just interested. Even if I'm annoyed with the question and mutter to myself, "oh crap here we go again", some of the responses from the seasoned professionals on this site are certainly worth my time to read. If it gets into a "pi$$ing contest" I just use my fingers to quickly scroll past.

If I fear trolls, I can't cross any bridges.

Well gang, I had a major GAS attack last week. After reviewing the specs of the Canon 80D and it having features my 5D MKII & 7D MKII didn't have I decided to take the plunge. I also wanted to upgrade my Canon EF 24-105L to version II.

So, I jump on to one of my online go to sites B&H for the purchase. They had the body in stock, however the 24-105L was back ordered so I put myself on the 'notification' list of when it would be available and in stock for purchase. So, I ordered the camera thinking it would only be a couple of days for the lens to come in and I could order it then. I received the camera in three days, free shipping and no tax with a boat load of goodies along with the body, including a nice medium sized bag, Sandisk memory card, lens cleaning kit and a lens cap keeper. ( don't know of anyone who uses those )

Well, after 4 days with nothing in notifications from B&H and patience not being one of my virtues with GAS continuing to build up lusting for the new lens, I went to Adorama's web site, another of my 'go too's, and viola' they had the lens in stock for the same price as B&H also with free shipping and no tax. Plunged again, and ordered the lens and upon delivery via UPS three days later it came with a bonus bundle as well including the Corel Paint Shop Pro X9 digital Creative Suite 2.0, lens cleaning kit, (another one) lens keeper, (oh boy) and some other stuff I forgot.

Twas like Christmas in September for me!

Hats off to Adorama and B&H for the stellar service and laser fast shipping. It's no wonder these two giants in the photography industry are, what they are. EXCELLENT!!!

Congrats on the new camera and lens! My much too limited for my walllet's sake experience with B&H was fabulous too!

I have never thought of photography as art. You can take and manipulate a capture. It can become a nice picture but it is not a painting.

I have seen some work done with PhotoShop for contests or advertising that is incredible and takes the photographic pieces to a level that is artistic. It's "painting with photographic pixels". I only wish I had the knowledge, skill, talent and patience for it.

I've been using Microsoft OneDrive to share.
I'm not sure about re-arranging, but you could probably upload in a particular order.
The free version is limited to a certain amount of storage.

Quick trick with OneDrive: for Windows users Microsoft gives 1 Gb free. If you download OneDrive for your iPhone or other IOS device, you get 3Gb for free. I don't know about downloading it for MacOS but that could be worth a try.

For those who participated in my initial post about image noise in my son's wedding photos, I have learned that the images are NOT proofs but the final product, unfortunately. The couple was given a presentation box, a bottle of champagne, and the thumb drive with the noisy images. I did not ask if she was a professional or how they found her as their photographer because of the sensitivity of the issue (they are, at least on the surface, pleased with the images). They will not receive any prints, but are free to print their pictures from the drive. I am still mystified how 20mb images were made with quality equipment resulting in such noisy images. Thanks to all who have voiced an opinion or taken interest in this discussion.

Would it be possible to get the raw files and do your own PP to get rid of the noise?

Sometimes the threat of bad reviews can get results.

I'll be there probably mid-week to avoid the weekend mass ascension madness. Balloon Fiesta Park is about 3 miles from my backyard so I have no excuse to miss it.

Be sure to lock everything up while you're in town. The crime rate has skyrocketed in the past few years, sadly.

Waiting to launch a new product until you have enough for the demand costs warehouse space. Far better to launch, take preorders, build some, and slowly send the newest, greatest, latest model to authorized dealers in large cities so reviewers can talk about lines and quick sell outs. Scarcity fans the flames of demand, just as Apple is doing with the iPhone X.

It's pretty sad. Inventory that sits on a shelf costs money and is most frequently bought by the merchant on credit. Until customers buy the items the local store pays interest on the inventory, which runs up the cost. A store clerk without any knowledge of photography must be paid at least minimum wage, which depending on the location can be at least 15 bucks an hour. A knowledgeable, courteous, trained customer sales representative is much more expensive.
This is why at least 3 good local camera shops in our city shut their doors. So now I order camera, lens, tripod or other bigger ticket items from good, reputable camera dealers such as B&H, Adorama, KEH, etc and maybe small stuff from Amazon only if I have other stuff I need to make the minimum free shipping. I had to go to Best Buy to even handle the cameras or feel the weight of the lenses. I do buy other stuff from Best Buy so I don't feel guilty looking at cameras but buying elsewhere.
