It all begins with good light and a good composition, both of which you have here. In MHO the people are not a distraction. They are not so bright or large that they compete with the subject and they add context.I shot images with the original 1mB Kodak and made some nice images. The camera just records the data, the photographer makes the image.

The first view was originally taken several years ago with a 4 megapixel Kodak camera, my first digital. Hence some of the reason for lack of sharpness. The second is after some post processing for enhancement. I still think there is some work to be done toning down some hot spots in particular making the people on the bridge a bit less apparent. Critique at will.

Right handed swordsmen had a disadvantage when attacking up a spiral castle staircase, because they had their sword close to the inside wall while the defenders above had more room to wield their swords in the larger space to their right. Left handed attackers balanced out that advantage. All spiral staircases were built so that traffic went clockwise going up for the security of the inhabitants.

As well as polo. There are no left-handed polo players.

I tried fencing, and being left-handed seemed natural, but I don't ever recall seeing any prohibitions on lefties. I do recall seeing left-handers in the Olympics.

In 2009 I went to help my daughter move back to California from Upstate New York. These are a few pictures from before we started the trip (during which we took many more – with some to follow). All were with my then Panasonic DMC-FZ18.

If you’re smart and prepared you will be lucky more often!

I switched the 100-400 to the A7R4 and went out on the deck to capture birds. I had been using it for close up work.

Got a few shots of the Red-head and noticed I hadn't changed the aperture...f22 which raised the ISO to 20000. I kept some of the images...here is one I processed.

I think it came out quite useable (Topaz). Is it better to be lucky than smart?

Ansel would approve!

For the uninitiated a petaflop is a computing speed of one thousand million million mathematical operations per second!

TriX wrote:
We surely have, it’s only been a little over ten years since I sold the storage for and was on the team that deployed one of the World’s fastest Machines (Mira - #5) at Argonne National Labs which achieved 1 PetaFlop. Now 10 years later we have already deployed several 250-300 PFlop machines, and the first ExaFlop machines are due to be installed later this year. 1000x performance increase in a bit over 10 years - we’re going to need to revise Moore’s Law.

That was a time that if your manager caught you coming out of a bar during working hours you could be fired on the spot!

Boy, that wasn’t true for CEs (customer engineers - now we call them system engineers) or salespeople. When I started, it was dark suits (some divisions even had “approved suits” each year), white shirts, conservative ties and shoes and NEVER any smoking in front of customers (in an era when probably over half the population smoked).

The first day I started, I thought I was very well dressed in a collegiate style: Glenn Paid Corbin slacks, yellow Hathaway shirt, Paisley tie and a nice blazer. Everyone in the hundred person office turned and stared at me. It was a sea of white shirts and conservative ties. Intimidating. That afternoon I went to the store and bought a dark suit, white shirts, conservative ties and black tie up shoes. Next day no one noticed me.

I started working at the T.J. Watson Research Center when it first opened And retired 27 years later. I remember their first solid state device and worked later at the East Fishkill Electron Beam Lithography (EBL) Facility. As I recall 256nm devices were a challenge then. IBM was a wonderful place to work and I woke up mornings anxious to try out ideas my mind created during the night!

Paul, are you satisfied with SmugMug overall? Are you getting enough sales to justify the cost and effort? Please PM me, as I would like to discuss this further.

I don’t know who the “they” relates to, but the OP has only posted a few times so maybe you could cut him some slack?

Thanks for the clarification.

Yes, that is true but blending them is done somewhat different with NIK in that you can select a shade of color to adjust. It would be like using the selective color filter in PS. In PS you would have to use several layers of selective color where in Nik you do it in just one layer. Viewing the YouTube video will help understand what I'm trying to convey.

Aren’t changes in selected areas to Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Texture, Shadow, Highlight, Warmth, Red, Green,Blue all available in Adobe PS?
Jim-Pops wrote:
I watched a YouTube piece on the NIK Collection software, I have it but only used it for Black & White conversion. I decided to see what it would do using this flower photo I shot last year. I opened it in Photoshop then applied NiK layers to the photo. I started working the image with the Color Efex Pro segment and applying a couple of their settings. Next I added the NIK Viveza 2 section. In it you can selectively changing small or large color areas, Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Structure, Shadow, Warmth, Red, Green, Blue, and Hue, of the image without an overall adjustment. It's interesting software in that your edges blends softly into surrounding areas. It's hard to describe without trial and error to see the effects. The YouTube that inspired me to dig deeper into the software is located here....
