I was just curious if anyone out there takes their camera into concerts ? I love to go to concerts and love to take pictures but haven’t snuck a camera into a concert in many years. I have the a6000 and think it could be done easily. Went to a Howard Jones concert last week at the local city winery and there was no inspection or searching even for my wife’s purse. I was within four rows of the stage and could have got some great shots. Then on the other hand a few months ago went to see Elton John in Vegas at Ceasars Palace and we went through metal detectors. It was shortly after the mass shooting at the outside country concert so I think everyone was a bit skidish and I couldn’t blame them. Anyway I go to a lot of concerts and always end up trying to shoot photos and video with my iPhone. It tries but the results are not good. I have looked into buying a telephoto lens for the iPhone but I doubt the results will be worth it. If anyone knows of a good set for the 7 plus please let me know. I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this or given it some thought. I used to take my Canon dslr and stuff a huge zoom in my socks and take great pictures but that was in the late 70’s and early 80’s and a lot has changed. I don’t want to sell them just for my own pleasure. Maybe someone knows about getting press pass that would get me in with no problems. I would appreciate any and all feedback from UHH. Thanks.

I think it depends on the artist. We went through the metal detectors at Caesars Palace with a MFT camera, and Rod Stewart said, "Screw the rules. Take all the pictures you want." Other artists at the same venue say no photos.

Just for fun: If you were only allowed one camera and one lens to go on it, what would be your choice and why.

I would go with my Olympus Em-1 and 12-40mm f2.8 pro lens. It is my most versatile combination. It’s small enough a light enough to travel with.

When I was in touch with the company that I purchased through about this issue, the rep said essentially the same thing--use the remote cable and hold the shutter open. That starts to make me feel like an octopus. From what Dan R shared, I'm wondering if the shutter being down is a defect in the shutter operation since he says his sensor is exposed with the mirror up. Sure hope to hear from some more D750 owners who do their own cleaning.

I havent done my own cleaning on my D750 (yet), but tried to lock the mirror up just for drill. Didnt check the battery, but in manual mode, I went thru the menu routine as described by Dan R, and it worked. The sensor was exposed.

Hope this info is useful — a lot of hoggers have helped me.

Someone on this forum asked a rather remedial question regarding the D850. I downloaded the manual to find the answer. One of the first things that caught my attention was on the very front page of the manual.

I quote, "Read this manual thoroughly before using the camera".

I wonder how many follow this "prime directive". I know when I got my D700, the only thing I did prior to reading the manual, was put a battery in the charger. Then, I could do two things at the same time, charge battery and read. I didn't even pick up the camera until I'd read through the entire manual. Yup, feet up on the desk, a cup of coffee nearby, the battery in the charger, and the manual nestled in my lap. I read every page.

Then, I placed the fully charged battery in the camera and read through the manual again. This time working on each section with the camera in hand.

Oh, I did the same thing when I got my D800e. Though very similar to the D700, I still read through the entire manual before picking up the camera.

I wish girlfriends came with the same sort of documentation.

Me too. (But it does give me GAS sometimes.)

Today is much better with some soft breezes out of the northwest. We still have some ash drifting off of the trees today. I have postponed a 15 mile hike to photograph fall colors around a waterfall because sadly, there will be no colors this year. I visited Yellowstone several years after the devastating forest fire they had there. It was pretty desolate--but it has recovered. It takes time...

Sad to hear. I just remember how beautiful the Columbia River gorge was when I was in the Coast Guard many years ago stationed at Swan Island in Portland.

Sorry, I didn't know about the fire.

I have three days for taking fall landscapes in WA , mid-September. Assuming the smoke subsides. any suggestions on where to go? (I have a 4-wheel drive.)

Thanks

If you're down south, the drive along the Columbia River on the Washington side is a knockout.

Mine's still working just fine after the eclipse...only used ND filters too.

No, but I did use my old EM-10 and cheapest lens just in case.

If after advertising my cameras and lenses here, on eBay or on Craig's list, they haven't moved, which is better to sell to outright: B&H,key, or Adorama; or to trade in?

I've found that lenses in excellent condition sell for 60-70% of their original value, and cameras more like 40-45% on eBay. You have to do a little research to get the price in the ballpark.

I bought FX camera the D750 Nikon body only. Anyone who own the same camera or know what FX lens is best to match the camera. Appreciate.

I bought the D750 with no kit lens, then added the 50mm f1.8 -- amazing photos!

My only question is simple..should I really do the upgrade from the D7100 or am I good with what I have? Thoughts and ALL input is welcome

I too have a D7100, and have always wanted a full frame camera -- for image quality, and low light performance. If numbers count, the top 26 or so DSLRs are full frame. Even though the D7100 is a great camera, GAS took over. $1484 for a D750 with battery grip, extra battery, SD card, and carrying case was just too good to pass up. Go for it. It will feel good in your hands.

My wife and I are planning to be Quebec City in mid-July. We have never been there and are looking forward to the trip. We hope to get some good photos while there. Which leads me to a couple of questions:

We are flying into Canada from the US. What is involved with customs in regards to the camera gear? Do we need to give them a list? Or, get prior authorization from Canadian Customs? There are two DSLRs and numerous lens, flashes, etc. that we would take. We are not pros, but... well, you know... we have lots of "stuff".

And, we are looking forward to the old part of town. Looks very scenic and lots of interesting architecture. Have any of you been there and have tips/recommendations for us? Would you have any hotels that you would recommend?

We are planning to use a taxi during our visit. Not sure we would want or need a car. Is that a safe bet? We will be there for a week.

Thanks!

Try Le Hotel Priori. Great location and reasonable for the area. They do have only one small elevator, however, and no bellhop service when we were there.
