If after advertising my cameras and lenses here, on eBay or on Craig's list, they haven't moved, which is better to sell to outright: B&H,key, or Adorama; or to trade in?

Trade in on B&H.

KEH may be a better option.

I've only sold one camera to B&H. My wife sold a couple more to them. We both felt we were fairly treated.

We bought cameras in separate transactions thinking we would keep and use the "old" ones. We didn't. So, rather than keep them dusted and charged, we sold them. B&H makes the process very easy.

Perhaps we could have done a little better in an actual trade-in.

Lower your asking price and try again

KEH or B&H Photo. Do not just lower your asking price, you will be bidding against yourself.

Ebay, just lower the price once or twice. I always start higher and drop it each time it relists. Those who are watching will take the bait.

Get an estimate from them and also see what they are selling the used items for. Then make your decision.

You could advertise it here on the UHH Members Buy/Sell/ Trade -- Classifieds. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-6-1.html

eBay is usually the best bet, B&H and Adorama are ok, but you will get a lot less there!

Honestly, if something isn't selling on any of those places, then you probably need to lower your price. The companies like Adorama, B&H, and KEH will offer you approx. 70% of what the going rate is on Ebay, etc. They have to make a profit, so I don't blame them at all.

Therefore, you will still probably make money going back to what you tried before, but with lower prices. People here, and even ebay, tend to research the heck out of prices, and know what the value is. We sometimes think that because we spent $1000, we should get almost that much back. My D7000 was close to $1000 new, and now they sell for $300. Electronics are NOT good investments.

How old and what kind of cameras are you trying to sell?...You may be asking too much depending on what you are selling.

If you're ready to take the kind of thrashing you'll get selling to KEH etc. why don't you just do someone the favor and re-list here or elsewhere for a price halfway what you think they are worth and what you would get from KEH(1/2 what they are worth)?
You'll make more money AND make someone happy! Just a thought!!

Trying to make money from second hand electronics is a lost cause. Cameras, TV's, Radios , I was at one time into radios from 1920s - 1930s. I began at 1 and end up at 2. Today you begin at 1 you will end up at 0. This one of many reasons I don't like digital cameras. If you want to sell digital camera sell it via UHH, good luck.

That will be my first choice after Craig's list. I have sold stuff here, but not big ticket items. The reason Craig's list is first is that I only deal locally, only accept cash and do not have to fuss with shipping or percentage charges from PayPal.
Thanks to all who answered, I will definitely consider your advice.
