Actually Sierra Vista is in southeast Arizona we moved back here to Sonora where we lived for 35 years still open country in the gold country no snowbirds to deal with I think that was part of the problem down there they came down and brought their complaints with them and as you Texans know the old saying they are like hemorrhoids good when they come down and are a pain in the ,,, if they don't go back up

wow do not know how my reply ended up inside your original post here is the part I wrote sorry for the error it ended up included in the quote section of the origianl posters message. I buy used even though GAS is pushing for the new latest greatest, a well cared for used/refurbished older version does the job I need it to do. I like to watch the excitement of getting a package by others Christmas is hard for many I spent many holidays away from my family first in the service then as a truck driver it taught me to realize the true meaning of Christmas and other holidays is not the gifts we get but the love and affection from those we love. My kids also learned from this as we give only special gifts such as handmade photo collages of our life homemade goodies etc., we do give young grandkids a small present and that suffices and also never heard any complaints from them as they are happy with what they get as it is secondary to spending time with one another. I do hope each and everyone on the hog has a wonderful Christmas wherever they may be.

not always a person can do research by driving through neighborhoods at the time of day that noise and disturbances are happening also dive through and look at what's there Hoas have so many rules not only about what goes on the property but also leaving garage door open over an hour (I received 2 letters on that),
not the correct plant they want you to put in, the color you can paint your home, which doors you can put in, your front tire is off the driveway by 2 inches, 4 small weeds growing (they were less than 4 inches high and we were gone for a month.) etc. etc. etc...., and what do you get in return a pool that does not work half the time gates that cannot be opened with a code after 11:00 pm (only the opener you keep in the car) roads that are subpar, even the color of street fencing or brick tan no white it is so ridiculous that it is almost funny. If wasting good money floats your boat have at it me I have better things to spend my cash and time on.

Without HOAs and their stupid rules you will have neighbors with cars up on blocks in their front yards.

one more reason I hate HOAs, just moved out of one in Sierra Vista partially due to frustration with all the stupid rules lucky we found a nice place on 5 acres up here in Sonora do not have to deal with anyone but the taxman

Just a rant! I don't understand some why people want to steal the joy of other people when they talk about the new or old piece of camera gear they purchased. If it was a older camera boded or an older lens maybe it was all the person could afford to get into photography. I think as a group of people interested in photography we should help people instead of making them feel bad about their equipment. Help them get the most out of what they have, to point out the best aspect of the lens or camera. How to set it up to get the best performance from what they have.get new equipment and especially when they post how they like features and post photos taken with the new equipment. Aww that's not good, if you are looking to buy one mabe check thrift stores and pawn shops just be sure to bring a camera and try it out make sure it functions and has no fungus or mold and that everything works the way you want it. Also check KEH, Adorama, and B&H for a used or refurbished lens you do not need to buy new and those 3 stores are very reputable and timely on getting your purchase to your door. Hope all turns out well for you and have a Merry Christmas.

The 1987 Canon zoom lens is broken and doesn't auto or manual focus on both the old film Canon nor my new 77D. The focus ring just spins.
I'll have to get a new lens.

On our way back from visiting our son and his wife in San Francisco a few months ago, we took a detour and spent a day in Bodie, CA. Thought I would share a few pics from that visit. Bodie is an old gold mining town near Mono Lake, CA. It's mining peaked in the mid 1870's with a population of about 10,000 residents. By the turn of the century, mining had declined significantly and only a few residents remained. It was fully abandoned in 1944 when the fed govt stopped all non-essential mining unrelated to war materials. There were a couple of large fires that burned down most of the town, but the mine and a few residence and business buildings remain. It is now a State Park and is maintained in a state of arrested decay, i.e. will repair a wall that collapses but only to the state it was in before the collapse.

I don't know what truck is shown in images 2 and 3. The truck in images 4 and 5 is a 1927 Dodge Graham.

Hope you enjoy the images.

When I see a post that requires specific knowledge, why are we not referring the op to the section most able to answer the question?

I try to do it all the time BUT I do not say where is the section. Why? It encourages folks who just use 'home' to search the board and discover the site features.

Providing a link is great, do not get me wrong, but the wealth of information is still hidden if we just give that, in my opinion. 'Teach someone to fish' kinda of mentality.

So, how can we encourage folks to dig for gold otherwise?

(This post may belong in the general chit-chat. I am just not sure).

hips doing great, I would if that's what I wanted to use the most but Topaz Studio is free and does a great deal if you own the old Topaz plugins you get them in studio for no charge if you don't own them then you can buy but you can do a lot with the free studio.

don't know about Canon much but sounds like a great camera have fun with it and I would suggest getting a class 10 card when you have a couple extra dollars might make a difference in write speeds to the card from the camera. Please share photos you take with the new toy.

The Canon 77D body arrived today. I'm charging the battery. I have a 16 GigaByte memory stick, Class 4, not Class 10... I'll have to read the manual.

Anybody want to warn me about using an 1987 EOS Canon Zoom 100-300 mm 1:5.6 lens on it? It's from the first EOS camera - the EOS 620, film camera, 1987.
Last chance! I'm scared.

I'll let you know if it smokes. I'll post some pictures if it works!
