I watched the complete film on PBS a couple of nights ago. Well worth the time. Hope all other nature lovers have the time to take a look. Thanks for posting.

Until Pro Grade responds to my requests to fix my card reader and CFA express card, this set contains the only bison shots I have from our recent Yellowstone trip. The problem card contains all the shots with the long lens.

These photos were taken from the car as we drove past the bison in Hayden Valley.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Nice photos! This week I watched the 2-part PBS film "The American Buffalo" by Ken Burns. It was so interesting and full of historical information. It's well worth watching.

Except for the first and last shots all pictures were taken a week ago Sunday. I spent a little over 11 hours taking pictures, Pre-dawn to lunch time I was at Watson Lake, afternoon to evening I took shots at Willow Lake. The first shot was taken a couple weeks ago. It's a little crunchy and wasn't going to post it. The last image is from the first contest I have ever entered. The only concession to winning is bragging rights.

The wild Wenatchee River runs through Tumwater Canyon in central Washington State. The drive along US 2 that follows the river is scenic at all times of the year but most especially in fall. This area experienced a forest fires a few years back and its remnants can be seen here. These shots were taken after a rain shower which left the fall foliage glistening. I hope you enjoy these images and thank you for taking a look.

Glorious!

I'm hoping some of you tech types might be able to help me. One of the remote keys for my 2022 Honda CR-V just stopped working a couple of days ago. I've replaced the battery with a new one, but it still doesn't work. It hasn't been dropped or immersed, and is seldom used. The local dealer's parts department tells me that these keys "don't just lose programming." Three local locksmiths have no other ideas than replacing the key. I'm still hoping to avoid that. Any ideas? TIA!

Go to a Honda Dealer and ask them to reset the key inside the car. I have a Ford Fiesta and the same thing happened to me. There was a simple action that one of the mechanics knew - it involved putting the key in the ignition and turning it on and off a few times which reset the key fob. I expect that can be done with other makes.

Early this morning at the emergency vet with my wife stroking her head, Sassy crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She leaves her brother, my wife and me in deep sorrow. For almost 16 years of love, devotion, companionship and fun she has been at our side.

I will not be participating on the Hog today.

Sorry for your loss.

I have a Canon 28-135mm lens that may need to be repaired. The lens zoom mechanism will not work. I can see a small metal part behind the front lens wiggling around. Also, the aperture blades are stuck in a closed position. This lens is more than 10 years old. Does it pay to repair it or buy a used version or buy a Canon or Sigma 24-105mm lens?

I just bought a brand new 28-135mm - You might not get the old one repaired for less than a new one, but ask your closest camera repair shop. I had another Canon zoom lens repaired with the same problem you have - but it was a better quality lens. Apparently, it's not an unusual problem and it's easy to replace the broken part. In Toronto we have an excellent Canon repair shop that charges acceptable rates.

The 28-135 continues to be my favorite lens. It does seem odd that a cheap lens can be so good. I recently shot a wedding with it and all the pics are wonderful. Bride & groom were so happy with the book I designed for them.

I love this photo. Generally you don't want a lot going on in an image. However the reason I like this is there is soooo much going on. You have the 2 cubs on top looking like they are trying to fish or waiting for a fish to just happen their way. Two more bears, one is probably fierce mama (I named her that as she is feeding both the cubs to the left, she is excellent at fishing and gives other bears the what for it they try to take a cubs fish!) checking out the bigger bear behind eating his fish on a rock. Two bears below having a tiff over fishing positions. Another just sitting in the churning water watching the fight and another littler one just looking on like I'm not getting in the middle! Then of course all the gulls are waiting for scraps. Never a dull moment!

Because I am actually working on writing a book, I have learned a bit as I wondered that myself. Given I photographed a mating routine, I hoped to see the results.

Here's what I have learned so far. Mother squirrels are extremely protective and keep their young in the nest until they are about 2/3 to 3/4 grown. They say typically about 3 months. Lately, I have been hearing a lot of frustrated moms, and a few times I have tracked the sound and found a mom who seems pretty worn out. They build their nests, which are called a drey, in the trees. You probably have even seen one. Look for a well-formed bunch of leaves, and then they weave twigs to make it more secure. Other times, they may have a nest in a tree knot. I spotted a squirrel one day actually going into a tree hole.

Looking at pictures of babies, I think my little cutie was much younger. The mom, however, was with them, but sadly she was moving fast, and I lost those shots!

So that's what I've learned so far

First, I admittedly struggle with mastering the focal points on my 90 D camera and trying out a new lens, Sigma 100mm - 400mm. Consequently, they aren't up to standards.

I, however, wanted to share an extraordinary moment: seeing my first baby squirrel! Since I photographed a mating, I had hoped to see some babies, so I was thrilled when I saw this little guy. While checking out the area, I spotted what I thought was a small squirrel. I tossed it a peanut, and the next thing I knew, this tiny one was barreling straight for me. Since I’ve been working with this group, quite a few have come towards me, but this one was getting so close that I stepped back as I wasn’t sure where Mom was. Easily distracted, it went exploring. Mom did come on the scene, but shooting continuously missed that.

Quite adorable, I’d say, and the start of a beautiful tail!

Sweet little things. You raise a good point. There are hundreds of squirrels around my neighborhood but I've never seen a baby one. I'm wondering where the moms are hiding them away.
