I'm hoping some of you tech types might be able to help me. One of the remote keys for my 2022 Honda CR-V just stopped working a couple of days ago. I've replaced the battery with a new one, but it still doesn't work. It hasn't been dropped or immersed, and is seldom used. The local dealer's parts department tells me that these keys "don't just lose programming." Three local locksmiths have no other ideas than replacing the key. I'm still hoping to avoid that. Any ideas? TIA!

I had one that quit working and the only solution was to buy a new one

Simplest thing to do if inserting a new battery(ies) doesn't work.
Most electronics are no longer repaired nowadays, simply replaced, it's cheaper.

Just read a post on a CR-V site. The guy had the same problem. He found that if he cleaned the contacts in the battery compartment of the fob, he used a "Mr. Clean Magic Eraser", that solved his problem. In similar situations in the past I've use a pencil eraser to clean contacts.

Don't cost anything and it might work.

Perhaps it is best to not assume the 'new' battery is good, a cheap test is to put in another battery. It might also be best to ensure you put the battery in correctly - there should be some kind of indicator in the remote key that tells you the correct side to put down. Second, read the car's owner's manual to see what it has to say about the remote key - perhaps there are some troubleshooting tips there.

Good Luck!

I think it's Tanks In Advance,
as opposed to them just sitting there.

Make sure the new battery is good. I've been puzzled by putting in a new battery that was also dead.

Rare, but it happens.
