I cannot rely on my eyesight, so I use auto-focus exclusively for my field macro-photography. Set your camera to smallest center spot for focus, so only your subject is in focus.

True macro-photography with this lens will occur ONLY at Minimum Focusing Distance.
The resulting Working Distance (lens front element to subject) is about 6-inches.
Depth of Field will depend of aperture selected, and be measured in millimeters, or less.
