Heavily cropped original 165mm. Don't ask me why I wasn't at 200mm on original shot....Lens was where it was at, had to just shoot it when I saw it. Canon 5dm3, EF 70-200L IS II 2.8.

First is unmodified. Last two are cropped of the first one with some light room contrast, color adjustments. With 5DM3 EF 70-200mm L IS II 2.8

Good tip mtnman, thanks! Gotta remember 5dm3 can handle higher ISO....to used to my 7d. I'll try faster shutter speed for sure

Also you need to stop pixel peeping. If you blow it up big enough even the NSA spy cams start to look soft.
Photos are generally not viewed through a microscope or closer than arms length. And the bigger the print/image the further away it is viewed.

Ol Griz, I think you're right. I'm over analyzing instead of enjoying taking pictures. The search for perfection gets in the way.

Thanks Frodo! Maybe I am unrealistic about hand holding shots at 600mm.

Your focus is spot on with great shallow depth of field. Great perspective too (not looking down at the subject, but almost on the same level). I like these very much. Only thing I'd do in PP is clean the background noise.

In about 30 shots, this was the sharpest. Still learning with this lens (Tamron 150-600mm f5-6.3). Even at f10 there is still shallow enough depth of field to cause softness. Eyes and tip of nose soft, but bridge of nose more in-focus. I'm not happy about the level of color aberrations. I have to heavily correct in lightroom. And there are still some I can't figure out how to get rid of (like on the deer's forehead)

Although this was hand held, I was hoping for better sharpness. I cropped slightly...probably looking more like 750mm (guessing).

I get much better sharpness with my Canon 200mm L IS II zoom lens, but then I have to 100% crop or more and loose too much detail. The Tamron @ 600mm, although slightly soft, is still better than cropping my favorite 200mm Canon lens.

Nice flash work too (makes every shot perfect). Looks like that 400mm prime is doing it's job. Who says 7D's focus soft? lol

Canon 5DM3, hand held in my yard. 600mm 1:1 crop (or more). I'm not happy yet, more testing to come. Any comments to improve welcome.

I like #3 & #7. #3 with the little fall color at the bottom...so subtle. #7 driving into a big rock!

Even with cropping, your detail is so crazy good!

I took some shots with my new tamron 150-600 today. My micro focus adjustments don't look good to me in real world use....back to the drawing board.

You're a real inspiration to me, Regis. Thank you for your posts.

Do you set your ISO, or let ISO auto?
