They did it, after three weeks of climbing the dawn wall on El Capitan, sleeping suspended in the air, they reached the summit yesterday. They did what was called the impossible, congratulations. I thought I dig out some images I took over the years to show you folks that never had the pleasure to visit Yosemite how the granite wall looks like. The black and white image is not my photo, it was taken by a French photographer around 1890, and I have the glass 8x10 negative from which I made this contact print. He was actually an artist painting Yosemite and Photography was not his main stay. I think just by looking at the composition of the image one can see that he had talent. The information came from Imogen CunninghamÂ’s son, but I am sure few people nowadays know who she was.

Some really great shots, thanks for sharing!!!   :D :D
Great shots Mike and I've been following the climb as well. Yosemite is such an awesome place for the great outdoors and photography. I'm so glad it's in our backyard. Your shots really capture the magnitude of El Capitan, very nice job.

Absolutely gorgeous shots, colors are amazing. I was there in 2006, best vacation I've ever taken. There is one thing however that i can't figure out. How can anyone say that they conquered a Granite wall by climbing it? It's not alive, it doesn't have feelings or emotions, sight, hearing, a sense of taste or smell, a heartbeat or pulse. It's a damn rock!
If it had any of these, could have fought back and finally said "O.K. guys, you won", crumbled to the ground into small granite pebbles, and shed a tear while falling, then i would agree......................they conquered it. I'll bet though, if you go look, it's still there and will be long after these two guys are long gone!
So beautiful!! Congrats to the young men.

Thank you very much Chris, I didn't go up last fall as the fall color was not great. Let's hope we get more snow up there so the spring will be great. It's so easy now as one can see the condition on their webcams.

Thank you very much, I guess those guys will be in the history books now and they deserve it.
I like you explanation and it makes sense, but my local papers headline was "The conquered it" I guess is a matter of wording.

Awesome Mike!!! I watched as much as I could. There is no way I would have even thought to do that! Isn't that why they make helicopter? :):) Two very brave young men!

I've been following the drama. Amazing feat of skil, strength, and endurance. Certainly one of the most iconic images of North America and you captured it well! I don't know if I told you once before but my 7th grade Texas History teacher had been a park ranger at Yosemite!
