Ron, the 16-50mm E mount lens is a kit lens to be sure. But you SHOULD be able to take good, sharp images with it attached to the camera.

This may sound obvious, but you really do have to learn how to use your camera... not like you use your HX200V; the AF system and setup is totally and completely different.

There are members of the UHH community who have taken exceptional photographs with the A6000. You can check Flickr also for spectacular images from that camera and lens combination. Don't give up just yet...

Thanks, Cholly. I'm hoping I'm the problem. Need to learn what problem is before the 30-day return runs out.

Thanks Cholly. I'll check over there. I keep hoping that the problem is ME instead of the equipment. I really like the little camera.

Well, sorry about this, but I've got to throw some dirty water on the kit lenses. Understand, the problem may entirely rest with the guy behind the lens.

I'm using the same post on several threads, hoping to get some insight. I apologize if you're catching all of them.

I bought the A6000 about 3 weeks ago, along with the kit 16-50mm and 55-210mm lenses. To be frank, I'm getting really disenchanted with the setup. I think it's the lenses and not the camera but I haven't gotten enough good pics yet to tell, nor do I have access to a proven good lens to compare with. I love the little camera and its menu system is far better than the Sony bridge I have, but...

The 16-50 lens hasn't producted a single photo that I'd consider sharp. I've used it in full auto, full manual, auto focus, manual focus - I just can't seem to find a combination that produces anything good. I'm just an enthusiast but I've gotten some really good stuff out of my Sony HX200V bridge and I was expecting a ton better photos with this A6000. It's just not happening yet. I'm blaming some (lots?) of it on me getting used to the camera but I've taken 954 shots and you'd think I'd have more than a few that I'd call good. They're just not there.

The 55-210mm is better but the only good shots I've gotten with it have been those within 20 or so feet. I've tried a ton of BIF and don't have a single photo that is even halfway sharp. Those are prolly my fault but, again, the law of averages should have produced at least one good shot. It hasn't, not yet anyway.

I'm frustrated, disillusioned, and losing my taste for this hobby. I can't afford to make costly mistakes like this. Fortunately, I got it at B&H and I'm still within the 30 day period. I'll be called them next week to see what they suggest.

I also bought Friedman's ebook. It is chock full of info but also has a ton of filler that could have been left out to make a more useable text. Still, worth the investment.

So far my experiences with the 16-50mm and 55-210mm has been disappointing. Very few decent pics out of almost 1K attempts. Granted, many of those have been in continuous shooting mode.

For what it's worth my experience with the Sony 16-55mm kit that comes with the A6000 has sucked. I cannot seem to get a good sharp photo with this lens. I have gotten a few decent photos with the 55-210mm lens but the percentage of keepers vs throwaways is dismal.

It may be me but I'm getting really frustrated.

Super good series of shots. Definitely NOT too many photos. Bet you could have doubled the number and still not covered all the stories there. Where is Brodie?

That's an interesting and useful bit of info to file away for future use. Thanks.

And, very nice captures to OP.

These are wonderful shots. My admiration for you guys (gender unspecific) only grows since I've received my Sony A6000 and 55-210mm lens. I have yet to get even a halfway decent BIF shot and here you have a ton of them in this one thread. I bow to you, Jan.

Impressive technology. Not surprising what with the autonomous vehicle research that's been going on the past few years. I would have liked the video to show some actual 'convergent' action rather than doing it with graphics. Still, impressive. The fact that it can be added to what already exists makes it almost a 'no-duh'.

Yeah, Somali pirates would be a good 'proof of' demo.
