I have a Canon 5D3 and actively looking to upgrade. A local (Seattle) camera store had a R5 to look at and try in the store. It is smaller than the 5D3/4. I do a lot of product and portrait work - and do have some long lenses for wildlife that I will use with an adapter. To start - I'm going to get the RF24 to 105.
The R6 looks like a nice camera for sports - which I don't do much of. I do a lot of cropping to get product details - so I want the high megapixels of the R5.

I think Sony makes good stuff. I didn't like the small size - and I have a bunch of Canon lenses already.

I like using a good quality hiking pack and individual sleeves/holders for my lenses and camera. I do have a number of "camera" backpacks but find they don't have room for food, water and clothes. I put my tripod in the middle - vs strapped to the back which pulls me off balance. (I have a big tripod.)

These are both on the Canon R, but the 24-70 looks a clear winner to my eye. https://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/ISO-12233-Sample-Crops.aspx?Lens=1415&Camera=1221&Sample=0&FLI=2&API=3&LensComp=1222&CameraComp=1221&SampleComp=0&FLIComp=2&APIComp=2

Good technical comparison - thanks.

Thanks for all the inputs. I haven't seen one of the R5s yet - my local camera store says it will be a while. So I don't have to decide just yet on the lens.
The 85 does looks nice - and has the nice price tag to go with it.

I occasionally do some low light stuff - but it's more about IQ.
I might be taking photos of a circuit board - and want to see the legs on each of the chips.

I'm getting serious about purchasing an R5. I do technology product photography - so want the best sharpness/resolution. I currently use a 24-105L on my 5D3 - and I think the results are "OK." I use my 70-200 2.8L for portrait work, and will keep using that with an adapter for a while. My 5D3 will become my backup camera. (I don't currently have a backup camera.)

I'm looking for a comparison of the RF 24-70 F2.8L and the RF 24-105 F4L. I don't see anything on DXO-Mark. I don't care that much about 2.8 vs. 4.0 - It's the "sharpness" I'm looking for. (I know the EF 24-70 F2.8L is supposed to be sharper than the EF 24-105 F4L, and wondered if that was the case for the RF series.)

I'm also looking for feedback from anyone who's currently using the R5 for photos. I don't shoot videos - as I know people who are much better at it than I would ever be. And they don't want to shoot stills.

Thanks for the help.

Canon R5

Canon R5 as well. Going to keep my 5D3 as my backup.
Trying to decide on 24 to 70 or 24 to 105 as my first RF lens.

These will be mainly used for videos. People and products. I have a set of studio strobes - but they don't work for video. (The modeling lights are incandescent and there is no LED replacement.)
I connected the panel I'm trying with a bounce umbrella to get away from the harsh look.
Battery operation is a good thing - good color lighting is key. (I do shoot for paying clients.) They need to be transportable - and rugged - not falling apart on the set.
I'm not looking for something that mounts to the hot shoe. I have light stands. I don't need special effects but I like the ability to adjust color temp.

I'm looking for recommendations on LED panels - for constant lighting. I've tried a pair of Newer Bi-Color 660 LED Video lights. They had good ratings from Amazon and were a good price They seem to work well - although the color seems a bit on the red side. (They have bi-color LEDs so you can adjust the yellow and white LEDs separately.
I looked at the GVM lights at B&H - they looked to be a similar design to the Newer lights - but without the batteries.
Not needing to spend more $$, but willing if there is an advantage to doing so.
Thanks for the help.

I like the Railroad Museum idea. I've shot at the locks before. I'm guessing the control room may be off limits.
Yes - the Troll is on the list.

I live in the Seattle area - so I should know the answer to this - but I don't.
I have a friend who is a guitar player visiting from out of town and I want to do a portrait session (with guitar) with him.
I want to do something non-touristy (no Space Needle shots) - maybe even a little "gritty." I was thinking of old train stations, old hotels under renovation, cool alleyways, rough construction sites...... Can be indoors or outdoors.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for the help.

My Canon L lenses were all "off." Setting them per Focal made a huge difference in getting a sharp focus. I tried using one of the cardboard "rulers" held at an angle. It didn't really work for me.
