Just a point of clarification. It is the Unknowns because there are three Unknowns buried there, World War I, World War II and Korea War. There was a fourth Unknown from the Vietnam War, but he was identified after his internment and removed.
Great picture...just wondering, isn't Scotland the place where men wear skirts? LOL
Very well done. Thank you.
Great picture. You brought a pile of dirt, a rock and a "dead" tree to life. Nicely done.
Truly a WOW capture....just great. I wonder if any of the camera shops sell a "helps you getting back-up from the ground" gadget?
What a great photograph. Hiking through the woods and fighting bears along the way. well worth the effort for such a wonderful result. Thanks for sharing.
DEROS is what we all LIVED FOR. After all, that's what we based our "short-timer" calendars on. For the non veterans, DEROS stood for Date Eligible Return Over Seas...the day we got to go home. It was actually a date given to each of us the minute we arrived in Vietnam.
Nice sign....I must have missed it. But your picture caused a little lump in my throat.
Sunday afternoon, December 29, 1968 when the C-141 landed at Dover Air Force Base bringing back guys from Vietnam. We were in the forward section of the airplane. The guys in the back were all dead. There was no greeting, no thank you, no "what can we do for you?" We waited for taxis to take us to Philadelphia and watched as an Air Force guy drove a fork lift back and forth from the rear of the airplane bringing out the dead guys. No honor, no flags, no bands, no nothing....just a fork lift drive to the back of a truck and then to the mortuary.....one hell of a welcome home.
Nice history lesson and a delightful picture. Thanks for sharing.
1965, away from home for the first time at college. Bought a 1954 Chevy two door for $50.00 cash. Sold it two years later when I entered the Army. Got $40.00 for it. Damn.
Thanks, everyone for good advice. I believe its off to Best Buy for something bright and yellow.
Hi all. My grandson is turning six and has shown an interest in "taking pictures." I want to encourage him and promised to buy him a camera of his own for his birthday. I haven't a clue as to what to get him...obviously thinking of a point & shoot, and would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks. Dave.
Well, if "covered bridges" photography becomes a serious addiction, I just might have you send me some Vermont winter survival clothing...LOL.
Great shot. Just wondering if your picture came out of an Edger Allan Poe script.....check out the very far left side of the picture, half-way up while in download....see the black cat which appears to be encased in the brick wall.....kind of spooky but so cool.
