As the father of a daughter who majored in theatre in college and acted during her college years, I can tell you that even without flash, photographing distracts and thus disrespects the actors. Many times, the production team will arrange for photography during dress rehearsals — for the production’s “official” photographer especially. But with the right request, cast members’ friends and relatives can participate. That’s the proper and respectful way to do it.

Another option would be to install belarc advisor on your old machine. It brings up serial numbers and, IIRCC, keys.

Wouldn't that be a kiva? I see the reconstruction/improvement has come a long way since I lived in Farmington in 1996-1998.

Maybe you're right; but, maybe it's a great photograph showing the bride "rising to the occaision," or so delighted with her nuptials that she is "walking on air."

Somebody said it is a B1 bomber. I think it is an F 111. Correct me if I am wrong.

You're wrong. Here's a link to a photo of the F-111. Note the different nose configuration and the cockpit windshield to see some of the differences. In addition, the B1 and its variants don't have wing-mounted ordinance.

I would like to apologize to those hoggers who I upset by my post on references to Native Americans. I had no idea it was offensive to refer to people by the name to which THEY wish to be called. I had no idea I was being “politically correct” because I don’t seem to understand what that means. Thank you all for pointing out the error of my ways.

I also suppose it was also wrong to note how the Ancient Puebloans at Mesa Verde might have farmed differently than those at Canyon de Chelly.

With all due respect, the term Anasazi hasn’t been used for several years. The current Puebloan tribes prefer the name “Ancient Puebloans.” I don’t know where this cliff dwelling is, but at Mesa Verde National Park the agriculture was on the top of the mesas. I first visited MVNP in 1957, returning several times, and have witnessed the evolution of the terminology and the updated information.

Triggered wonderful memories for me racing our Sound InterClub on Lake Pontchartrain out of New Orleans Yacht Club in the 1960s.

The din of noise here is deafening but meaningless, especially if you are concerned about ethics. The bottom line is that there are three options that meet legal and ethical requirements:...

Because you are an employee, this is much less likely to be a negotiation and much more likely to be a direction. And be really careful when talking about ownership. Be prepared for the hospital to take the position that the images are theirs in the end. If I were in your position and could afford to do so, I would do the whole project on my time and dime and loan the framed images to the hospital inder provisions of a contract.
The din of noise here is deafening but meaningless... (show quote)

OP doesn’t have time to address all these issues in time for a meeting tomorrow, but larrypage is right about all the din and he and I are the ones with the most professional and ethically/legally safe courses of action. As for tomorrow, he needs to feel out how exploitive “upper management” is in this situation. He also needs to keep in mind that as a nurse he is both vulnerable as an employee and works from a position of strength as a nurse.

OP needs to go back to those two posts and pull them together and choose a course of action based on how vulnerable he wants to be as an employee and/or how much he wants to “give away.”

Final note: As I said before, I was a hospital administrator for 25 years and there was a time when they could be counted on to be trustworthy. The hospital industry has changed and it’s all about the business. OP needs to protect himself as an employee and as a nurse; and, as an artist. I hope he keeps us posted on how this issue plays out.

Getting paid for side jobs for an entity which is already your employer can be a really sticky wicket. Once they ask you to do it, it becomes part of your assigned work. If your hospital is a public entity, the rules are even tighter. The only good advice here is to sit down with Human Resources and understand what the rules and policies allow. It may be that they are thinking of having you manage this as a project in addition to your current duties.

While this invitation is flattering and, no doubt, deserved, it's also a big "ask." Don't forget the Human Resources Department's first loyalty is to management, not the employee. So while getting policy guidance, which I hope would be in writing as part of a handbook, policy manual or other doument, I wouldn't rely on that totally for your decision. I hate to burden you with this, but consulting an employment attorney would make a lot of sense. You'll need your own loyal guidance to deal with such issues as:

Once these go on display, are they yours? If the hospital either pays you for them or reimburses you, to whom do they belong then?

Can you price them for sale and if someone wants to buy one of your prints, how do you handle that?

What if the hospital keeps asking you to provide more and more prints on a regular basis?

Will the hospital be responsible for damage or theft while they are on dispaly?

I am sure there are other questions, but those came to mind quickly. A lawyer could probably think of more.

It's a wonderful honor. But hospital administrators can't be trusted. I should know. I was one before I became a journalist.
