You got me, Bro! For a minute I wondered how you knew right off the bat that one of the Mountain Lions was #67 and the other #53....

Easy I just look for side parking lights or no lights! Lol…

I had this color 67 Cougar with a black top. Unfortunately I don’t believe I have any pictures of her. Most of my film pictures were lost. But I still have great memories of her.

Beautiful color! I really liked the body lines and the hidden headlights on these cars! We have restored one in our car club now that I really enjoy….

One of my favorites of my youth, the '69 Cougar Eliminator. I just looked and saw one that just sold for $176,000

Aaahhh….if only we had known back then. I saw a 66 Shelby GT 350 for sale at a dealers, it was about double what my 64.5 convertible Mustang cost but I could have swung a deal if I had to….man park in the garage and sell it now! Or even the AC Cobra Shelby!

They do now…we just bought this Mazda CX5 and it fits Americans perfectly! It really does bring a smile to both our faces when we ride or drive in it. This car is actually FUN to drive. Plus this special color Red stops people in their tracks and they have to come over to talk about it especially on a sunny day.

...and I think the "side pipes" are known as "lake pipes."

Yes I remember lake’s pipes well, we just called them dummy spots but there are probably names for them I don’t remember. The hubcaps of choice were Dodge Lancers…from stock sources…flashing chrome blades as you drove….then came the aftermarket ones. Lol, I had some 3 blades on my 56 Mercury hot rod that would almost blind you in the sun!

I loved the old Flathead Ford V8! It was a neat good running engine so smooth I could balance a Silver Dollar on edge on the air intake. Yes, with the engine running! I bought a rebuilt Flathead from the catalogue for Monkey. Wards and replaced the old on in a 53 Ford pickup I was restoring. That was fun.

Thanks for the memories! Great pics of an oldie!

I bought an extra Canon battery with my new camera a couple years ago or so…one of them held a charge a lot less than the other…now it is down to half the capacity of the other…wonder if it is a knock off or a real Canon battery? I got no warning that it wasn’t OEM when I first put it in.

.Great story, but it makes me sad. . . .

My thoughts also...I think back on all the changes I went through over 60+ years. The vibrancy & bustling activities, 1000+ workers all intertwining their lives & hopes & goals, helping one another for the common good & achieving personal goals. The problems solved, the sacrifices made to "finish" the project. The overtime hours, the brainpower expended... sometimes even successfully! ☺The parties & awards & families getting to come together...so much time & effort & thought, good & bad , but like putting your finger in the still waters of a lake and then pulling it out...soon no visible trace will be left.

It still exists! But only in the mind of the old gentleman sitting in the sun & quietly reminiscing on things he has done that no longer matter, impossible demands met & exceeded, surprises no one expected, the kindness & generosity of people everywhere are amazing...and so is the flip side, the darker side but overall it was good. The skills & knowledge & experience of everyone involved were/are of so much value, the old man realizes even in this hi tech age you need someone who knows what to do when you flip the switch and there are no lights.

Here is an old pic from 1969 of my Mach 1 head turner I bought new back then. Cops would pull me over just to talk about it! Quite a sensation back then.

Looks like a nice Sport tourer. Cars weren’t known for their fuel economy in those days - I bet you were sucking up some fuel at that speed!

Stan

at $0.29cents per gallon we had no thought or worries about gas economy! Fun days long gone.

I made the same trip in my '67 Barracuda Fastback at the same speed and about the same time. I miss that beauty. I paid a shade under $2500.00 for it. If you can even find one today, they're$40,000 and up.

I remember those Backarrudas! Looks like we all had Pony cars ...good choices & I bet we ALL wish we still had them! I do!

Some years ago I had a 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7, which I dearly loved. It was beautiful, luxurious. and a great performer - eventually stolen, unfortunately. I drove it from Burbank up to Marin when 5 had just opened up - very little traffic, no gas stations and no highway patrol; I averaged just a tick under 100 mph for the greater portion of the trip. I've included pictures from some old photo scans.

Beautiful! I had a new 69 Mach 1 when I5 first opened and did the same thing ! I was driving at 105mph for a big portion of the way too! No cops and no gas had to plan where to hit 99 to find gas then come back to 5…thanks for the memory!
