If the savings are substantial enough to forego the legit USA warranty, any brand except Nikon is no problem. Whenever it needs work, just pay for it. Only Nikon USA has that distinction of refusing to do any work for any price on non-USA gear.

The conundrum acoarst is whether the savings justifies the risk. When a USA version has a five year warranty that makes the risk vs price decision harder to judge. Repairs can typically run well beyond $300.

FWIW:
The OMD EM1-II with a 12-200 is $100 less than that Sony. Slightly larger but vastly superior to an RX10 ... you might even abandon Nikon ;-)

Unlike the Sony, failure in the lens or body doesn’t bring down both the lens AND body. You make your own choice about repair vs “junk-it-and-replace” on either component. The “replace” option can be “same but used” or a newer upgrade, usually depending on age, same as you would do with your Nikon.

I own both and I am not so sure I would agree that either is VASTLY better than the other. You know what is said about people's opinions. Both are very good cameras but if I was had to choose between them, I would take the Sony. It's your money and your choice.

Take battery advice with a grain of salt. Mirrorless cameras consume more power than DSLR. Batteries that work well in a DSLR will not perform as well in a ML camera. Batteries perform differently in different devices. To be safe buy the original.

Exact equivalents are out there...Canon don't make batteries. The only sure way to find a comparable battery is by trying the different brands.

Although another way to look at it is initial cost vs performance. If your battery only provides 2/3 the life but it cost less than 1/2 of the original...get the point.

Is there any for sure way to determine the "OEM" battery is in fact not a Chinese knockoff? I once purchased a Canon battery that was advertised as OEM from a "reputable dealer". The battery was junk. It looked exactly like the battery that came with the camera new. I got about 25 pictures and it was dead. The dealer took it back and did not offer to replace it so I just moved on down the line to an advertised third party battery. I have several cameras and have had no real issues with known 3rd party batteries which usually DO NOT last as long as the real OEM version. joel is right. It is all about bang for the buck!

Honestly, I see barely any difference between the three examples. At least not enough such that any of them stands out as notably superior than the others. If you had said they were all generated by the very same camera, I would have no reason to question it.

I have to whole heartedly agree.

Wrong.. Having gone to a number of collage football games the time outs etc. are controlled by the networks. A so called 30 second time out at the game is more like 3 or 4 minutes. A game that should take about an hour and a half counting half time takes closer to 3 and a half by the time the TV time outs are added. If you notice there is often at least 4 or 5 commercials when the ball changes hands, following a score, touchdown, field goal or whatever there are even more. I have been recording live games and then going back and watching them later fast forwarding through the commercials. If I start watching between and hour and an hour and a half into the game I get to watch the last quarter or more of the game live so it's not spoiled by knowing the outcome.

I solved that problem. I have not watched a single athletic event on TV in over two years and never will again. I find better more entertaining things to do with my time. I.E. Gunsmoke re-runs.

First off, let me state that I was a Television Broadcast engineer for 20 years starting back in the late 70's. I've been out of it for quite awhile, but man how things have changed. Anyway, back then a LONG commercial break was 2 minutes and there was generally at start-break, a mid-break, and an end-break (which was shared with the start break for the following program). A special note here, in that most of these were network breaks and our station only made direct income on the local breaks we ran and still turned a reasonable profit. We actually had to pay the network to carry their programming including all their breaks and ads!

Anyway, to get to the point, today's breaks are far more frequent and much, much longer. So much so that I think it's getting absurd! Last night, my wife and I watched an approx. 2 hour movie that took 3-1/2 hours to air and I counted and average of 8 commercials, two promos, and/or PSA's in each break. Some had even more (especially promos), but not one break was less than 5 minutes and a couple were a full 8 minutes long! I wish I had also counted the actual number of breaks, but I was having trouble keeping up with the movie already. Top that off by the fact that most of us pay to have this programming brought into our homes with cable, satellite, and/or streaming fees and subscriptions and I simply have to wonder how many jillions of dollars these channels are making on all these ads and double dipping on their subscriptions and/or fees as well.

While I realize that money is the driving factor here and we will never get around the corporate greed for more and more income, I think it's high time we began to rebel against this situation or at least put the powers that be on notice that we are fed up with this situation. I'm not sure what we can effectively do about this, but I'm certainly open to your suggestions and I will be writing my cable company and local stations about this, as well as posting this topic in multiple venues to see if there is any real response from the public in general. I am also considering going back to "Off Air" TV only. While they still run too many ads, at least they don't double dip by also charging me for their overall programming. Anyway, I'd love to start a reasonable discussion on this subject and would appreciate your input. I'd really like to start some grass roots support and give them as much negative feedback as possible. Thanks for reading this far and please "Enjoy the Season and Celebrate the Reason!"

The wife and I record any shows we want to watch (and there ain't many) then we zip past all the commercials. I have found that by doing this a one hour show takes about 35 - 40 minutes to watch. To retaliate there are several networks on Direct TV that are cutting the end of some shows off , all reruns, in order to squeeze more commercials into the 60 minute allotted for the show. I guess $150+/- per month is not enough.

I have a neighbor that canned all his pay TV and has some kind of antenna that enables him to get approximately 35 channels 100% free. We have not got to that point yet mainly because a number of the shows we enjoy are not available free. That number is dwindling fast because many of the shows we enjoy have not been on pay TV either since the Plague ground everything to a halt.

I bought a used teleconverter for Minolta lens in mid November of this year. I got what was advertised and it was delivered before the promised date. No complaints here. If they are O.O.B. it is a shame.

Could be - I guess I can't tell the difference between "real" and Bayer filtered. A good monochrome photo is good monochrome regardless of method.

I agree. Am I missing something? I don't understand the willingness to spend a lot of money for something so easily available elsewhere. Can anyone explain in simple english and not describe how to make a camera?

I see the same abundance of Canon 5d4s on eBay. Maybe, I’m jumping to conclusions, but I figure it’s Canon and Nikon owners getting what they can before jumping to mirrorless?

Some time back B&H (and others) were offering the 5DIV for under $1900.00. That should be an indication of the margins on that camera. They can drop the price $500 and still turn a profit for the dealer and Canon. I would like to perhaps buy this camera but I am not drooling at the mouth to get it. I have nothing against used gear but what they are asking for a used 5DIV is generally more than $1900.00. I for one will wait and keep my powder dry.

Can anyone please suggest me a free software like lightroom or similar cheap standalone software? Thank you all.

If there was a free software package just like Lightroom there would not likely be a Lightroom. Who is going to write the code as complicated as Lightroom must be and then just give it away? No one I know of.

If you want something just like Lightroom then buy Lightroom. If you want an inexpensive package to edit your pictures there are quite a few that do a good job for relatively little money. Some are even free.

78 years walking around this planet have taught me there ain't no free lunch.

I can’t believe the irony... the same night that I read this, I was using my trusty 30+ year old Shop Vac when it made a god-awful noise, spitted out sparks, went up in smoke and gave up the ghost.

R.I.P. Shop Vac !

(I bought a Ridgid wet/dry vac as a less-expensive replacement. Reportedly “lifetime warranty”. Let’s see.)

I believe lifetime is until it croaks.
