I need a new word for jaw-dropping ..cause there are no word to describe my face when seeing this one.
I think this is something like (excelent x superb) + (gorgeous x astonishing)

:)

Very beautyful Regis, his face expression, his focus in the eyes and the grate detail makes this a winner.

happy Easter

I am pretty sure you somehow changed your keyboard layout.

My first guess, you have your keyboard on English British. I know that SHIFT+2 = " , Shift+3 = £ , and Shit+ " = @
For windows you should be able to access control panel, and look for regional settings. There you should have a tab Keyboard. Look in there and change according to you region and language.

Hope it helps .

no hart feelings here,
but I don't feel I bragged in my answer.
I think I've been clear enough about the subject Noise and how I deal with it. As I also learned , from UHH, Noise is a sensible subject but can be difficult to handle but also to understand. But with the correct gear, combined with knowledge and personal style one can achieve that level of quality even with noise. In the beginning I was one of those who could not stand any noise at all on photos I was seeing.

Until I started to take my own pictures. And understand whats happening , and why. And been on UHH and read , and asked. and researched. And then I changed my attitude towards noise. I learned to deal with it, but I've also found my level of acceptance, and also found ways to make it work. In order to get there, the gear was also necessary. And it was not for bragging I've bought my D750.

And I think my answer was nothing about bragging, and as most objective as I could be.

I only commented this because I feel I belong to the not skilled ones :) but eager to learn, and after much learning, I want to give helping answers when I can. I get a little discouraged when reading comments like that,.

So I just want to raise my cold beer and say Cheers guys.

I am not divorced since we never married.
But I do have two boys with her, and I want to make my part of the coolest and greatest dad. We live in different towns, 100km away, but it does not stopp me from going regularly every second weekend for normal visit, but besides all that we do Christmas, now for Easter we go to a cabin up the mountain with both part of my family and hers, and other events. Even thou our past has it's turbulence, we had to put aside all that and only think about a future. Even thou it looks like we should be a couple again, it will never happen. And we are both aware the facts that both will end up in a new relationship, and that will not be a a reason for not interacting like today. The kids appreciate it, both my family and hers seems to be happy about the good tone we have, and they all look for keeping this up.

So it all comes down to compromise, let go the past, and think about the future when "it's complicated"

Hi Papa J,

I think you need to evaluate your standards of what's accepted noise in your photos. Or maybe you could post some examples in order to better understand. I would love to see what your noise level looks like.

What I can say is the D750 does a very good job at high ISO. I am very pleased with my D750, and I upgraded especially to get better results when using high ISO. I must say that I have become aware of the fact that using high ISO and then zoom inn 100% on a face, that will show lot's of noise. But again , I was not shooting to get the face in perfect quality, I was shooting the scene, and that looks totally different and you barely see the noise. Should I look for the face photo, then I would got closer and surely would managed to get way better quality with the same ISO setting.

I shoot a lot of photos indoor, ice hockey, soccer for kids, some DJ parties, and I shoot with high ISO. The results are very good for my standards.
Noise it will be visible the higher you go, but far better than what I could get out of my D7100. Depending on the type of photo you take some noise means nothing. Check out my posts where I've attached pictures with all exif data. You will see I use quite high ISO on many pictures. I never use Auto ISO. After long time now learning manual mode, it's seems I rarely use other modes. Also I've turned off features like noise reduction for example. I'll do that myself.

My most recent pictures are from kids soccer indoor from two weeks ago, (have not posted them here yet bu I will). This time I've managed to get pretty darn good pictures, and I used ISO 1250-4000.

One thing I have to mentioned is that I do post process all my photos since I shoot raw, and noise reduction is often applied to my photos.

Here are some links to my posts from here where you can study some of my photos as referance.

ISO 1250 cloudy day (some dogs) : http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-437428-1.html
ISO 4000 indoor (lego figures) http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-434275-1.html
ISO 1000 indoor (ice hockey) http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-428662-1.html
ISO 1600 outdoor (my kids and dog) http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-420308-1.html

Of course , if this level of noise is far from what you would accept, than I fear you may have too look to upgrade to the bigger boys, D810 , D4.

Cheers

Hi Sally D,
Welcome to the right place to be either the pro or the hobbyist :)
You've posted a grate set, and from the looks they are not bad. Composition looks good from my side. The horses seems to be more in focus than the flowers. The funny part here is that I would think it was easier to get the flowers in focus rather than horses which my guess is they moved a lot. Not able to see the full download or the the complete data for each picture, so it could be analyzed more precise, so remember to check for store original checkbox when you upload.

Software is a lot to chose from, and from the free side I can only suggest Nik Collection https://www.google.com/nikcollection/ or Lightzone http://lightzoneproject.org/
I am a Nikon user so not so familiar with Canons software, but I am sure it works just fine. Shooting raw or JPG I feel is a personal choose. I prefer the raw side , and I am a hobbyist myself.

Anyway , keep shooting and share your good eye catches with us :)

Salute from Oslo !

I didn't mean to insinuate anything or offend anyone. I live on the Gulf Coast, of the U.S. on the water, and I fish and release. But it depends on the fish specie, availability and if I am fishing specifically for something to eat. I know what is in my area and what there are a lot of and that is what I fish for when I am hungry. My point is, I wouldn't post a picture of a shark without his fin. I would, on the other hand, have no objection of a picture of a filleted shark with the fin on the side. Shark "finning" is illegal. BTW, I eat fish once a week.

From my standpoint no worries Lowrider,
Most of us practicing C&R also take a fish or two for dinner. It also happens to me once in a while that I hook the fish wrong and can't survive. What I do try my best is to release prize fishes, and keep normal size.
I understand that in many countries fish is also substantial, and C&R and all the fancy equipment I use for unhooking a fish is unheard of. I cannot argue with their way of life, but I do hope that the rest also will raise more attention into this beautiful and relaxing sport and does a best effort for maintaining fine specimens. I also eat fish pretty often, but it seems I find my way to the store more often than my effort for dinner.

And when it comes to photography and fishing, the photo should be a compliment to the fish.

A simple question... Why do you want to freeze something that is fast moving? Why not take it immobile in any scene?

Panning is usually the best option that way while the car is sharp (if you have the experience) the background becomes blurred. This would be introducing speed as well as keeping the object in focus. (Check panning in photography)

A flash can be used too, best being the rear curtain. The background is still, the car shows motion then the flash triggers freezing it. (Find rear curtain tutorial of explanation)
A simple question... Why do you want to freeze so... (show quote)

Hi Ron,
I was not trying to freeze, but I can understand why you had the impression. My pictures shows the background as frozen, I only got the blur cause of the shallow aperture and the car passed just near me. Also the car was spinning a lot and often I got the shot while accelerating and spinning on the spot.

Anyway , I see the both you and Howard mentioned panning. So I searched for it and read a little and seen some youtube videos. It seems I was unknowingly using the technique , but I was all over the place instead of concentrating on the same spot/area. Also I see that shutter speed should been lower.
So i'll practice some more now that I've become familiar with the term panning.

Thanx for commenting and tips

Cheers and great weekend to you all

1- This is one of those situations where BBF (Back Button Focusing) might come in handy. If you lock the focus to a particular spot (area) and then have your friend drive through that area, all you have to do is follow the car in the viewfinder and snap the photo when the car passes through the prefocused area. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usSF41lo78I
2- This is also a great way to learn panning (tracking to subject in the viewfinder).
BTW - good for you ... getting down to where the cars were.

Hi Howard, and thanx for commenting

Actually I did use the BBF button, as I started to see the benefit of it, but I did not focus on one spot and waited for the car. I was more trying to follow the car. So grate tip to try waiting for it. I shall try that next time.

And yes, I was stretched all the way on my belly "rolling in the dirt", as I really wanted a good perspective of the car and motion.

Very few catch and release in this area Catalint, prized table fish in most cases.

I had a slight feeling that was the case .
I have friends who don't practice C&R, and they would throw me of the boat if they would see me release a fish, no questions asked.

I had the pleasure of spending a day at my friend's cabin and play with RC cars. Gee, I haven't had this fun in a while. Childish fun that is :D
After a couple of hours I remembered I wanted to shoot some fast moving RC cars.

And that how I started crawling and tried to keep up with the fast moving RC truck. This little baby does 40Km/h and accelerate so fast that I was having a little problem focusing.
My idea was to catch some motion, either wheels , dirt or leaves splashed around from the spinning wheels, so I did not went higher than 1/320s . Or maybe I could , but my main problem was getting the damn speedy monster it's self sharp. I was happy with the motion details.

So how do you guys control your camera for such? The biggest challenge was that this car was moving very fast, even from start point, and since I could not keep up with it I asked my friend to do drive-by's me, as close as possible. I wanted to use a wide aperture so I can keep as much of the background out of focus and get some nice bokeh. Since I wanted motion, I didn't go too fast and felt 1/320 was enough, which seems to be ok.
I am pretty happy with the results, but I feel I could have done better in focusing.

My setup was :
MY Nikon D750 with my Sigma 50mm 1.4
S 1/320s , A@F3.2, AF-C group focusing, ISO 100 (it was very bright), and fast-continuous shooting.

Pictures are pp in LR like I always do, from top to buttom, exposure, highlight, w&b, sharpening and I played a tad with dehaze since it gave that extra boost

So what you think ? I could have done better ?

As much as I enjoy pictures of great specimens, I prefer to see pictures where they are not harmed, and since I am a passionate angler I do C&R all the time. The best feeling I can have after catching a fine specimen, is the release. Some people fish for sport, some for food, either way pictures should be taken without the horror and gore.

Looking back at my fishing time and photos, I think I have more pictures of me kissing fish than kissing girls :D
