I am new to the forum and a new hobby photographer. My current passion is the wild horses in Arizona and our beautiful spring Mexican poppies. I'd really appreciate it if you'd take a look and then give me your feedback.
I recently switched from a Sigma 80-300 to a Canon 80-300 lens. I think it's helped with the clarity of my pictures. And, thanks to the info I've gained from following this forum, I've switched from multi-focus points to a single point. I've been using JPEG but started experimenting with RAW today. I'm currently using the software than came with my Canon Rebel for editing . . . I may need to invest in some different software.
Thanks for your time!

Well, the one thing you are not doing, is showing us the best image you can here on UHH web site. When you upload an image, in the process is a check box called "store original". Because you are not downloading your best image, we are seeing about a 90% quality thumbnail.
Both you and we would benefit greatly on the sharpness of your images if you let us go into the "download" mode and see a really sharp image.
MUCH BETTER IQ than what you posted here. Please consider showing us your best effort. Check the box at Store Original on the site. It will say DOWNLOAD under the image. You will be amazed as well.
You can check it out now... Go ahead and upload one or more of your image with the box checked. You will thank yourself. I'm thinking the yellow poppies might be a good one.
Just do a reply to your own thread, as each post will allow you to again upload the same or more images!
Love the compositions. The do look a little soft., With the action shots think shutter speed would been better. Needed be lil faster than aperture's speed tad bit blurred. The blurring over back ground easy done in pp. You do have a good eye.
I like watching this guy. He takes it slow an easy about understanding the camera .
Just remember utube university is your friend. You can also utube. Your camera. For more ideas.

The wild horses images are great, the flowers seem a bit out of focus.
It's not the best time of day , the shadow from the horse is right under , if you live around there go back in late after noon , and get some long shadows ,

Welcome to the forum
Great pictures Sally D!! I'm jealous that you can take pictures of the wild horses!!!! I'm looking forward to seeing more. I don't know the limitations to your software that came with your Canon. I've been using the software that came with my Nikon for years but after being on this forum for a few months, I'm hoping to be able to try Adobe. I'm 100% sure its more robust then what came with my Nikon.

Super horse pics - how wild are the wild horses? We have wild moorland ponies here in UK, and they often enjoy human contact. Your flower pics are a bit soft - your equipment can do better, but with single point focus (which is what I use for everything) it is easy to miss your point of focus with flowers or anything that can move - e.g. - a breath of wind as you press the shutter, also, if you are hand holding, it is possible to pull the camera enough to miss a small or narrow focus point.

Welcome to the forum, You have a good eye for composition. The Canon software is very good. I like your horse shots, something I've never done. You could stop the shutter down on your last shot for some added DOF. Flower shots can be tricky due to just a little wind, you may think that they aren't moving but sometimes it helps to be able to block the wind. Have fun.
Lovely shots! The horses are fantastic!!!
