Thank you for this information, it makes a lot of sense. I will pay close attention to the results of my scans. May I ask what kind of scanner you used?

I have the Epson PerfectionV700 Photo.
Not a cheap machine, but I did have the money at the time and have never regretted buying this one.

Go to the scanner manufacturer's web site.

I did that. It doesn't name the software I'm looking for.
If I remember correctly, it was not actually Epson software, but provided by another company.
If I could just remember the name of it, I could buy it to use it again.

Since there's a conversation going on about scanning, would someone please refresh my memory?
When I bought the V700 Epson there was a CD with it with software that I installed, and used all the time, for different settings, different size photos, neg's etc.
Three years ago we moved. Recently my hard drive crashed and I lost a lot of what was on it. Most of it was backed up to an external drive, except for the CD's I had used to install the various programs.
Now I cannot find the CD for this software to go with the scanner and for the life of me I cannot remember the name of that program.
Can someone help me out, please? I would really like to buy this software to have it again.
Esther

Thanks, we have lots of color negatives. We talked about the time involved & feel that it'll be worth it. Almost all of the negatives are in sleeves. I like your idea of a flat piece of glass on a light box, I thought of that but I didn't know about the orange mask. We don't have the expertise for color correction. I believe that the cost of a good scanner would be a lot less than having them scanned professionally so I will be looking for an Epson V-600.

Even with the negatives in sleeves now, you may find that they will not lay flat on the scanner. Even in the holder, I found they were not completely flat.
From a picture-framing shop I bought a piece of non-glare glass. I covered the edges with strong packing tape (the kind that looks like there are strings of thread woven into it), just so I wouldn't cut my fingers when using it. On the corners I let the tape stick out about an inch or so, to have tabs to easily pick up the glass from the scanner again.
So, the film goes on the scanner, then the piece of glass on the film and then close the lid.
BTW, I haven't used this for about 3 years or so now, but I seem to remember that there was a setting for scanning negatives directly on the scanner glass, or in the provided holder. There is of course a slight difference in distance between the negatives and the part of the scanner that records what is on the negative.

I don't know which forum to ask this. Is it possible to convert film negatives to positives at home? If so, what do I need & how do I do it? I just want to clearly see who or what's on them. I don't have PS or LR but I do have Affinity.
Thanks, Paul

Do you have a scanner that has a setting for negatives?
I have scanned a lot of negatives (with Epson V700-Photo) and all of the negatives were converted to positives.
It is a few years ago since I did that, so I'm afraid I don't remember the exact steps.

Always been confused about aftermarket lenses for my E-M5 III. Are there any? Do I need some sort of adapter? Would like all functions to work like the Original Equipment. Thanks for the help.

You can use M4/3 lenses just the way they are, as the E-M5 is a M4/3 system.
You can also use 4/3 lenses with an adapter.

My first Olympus camera was an E-5. Heavy beast! At the time, I got 3 or 4 lenses for that camera.
Then switched to the OM-D E-M1 and a bit later also bought the OM-D E-M1. I did get a few lenses in M4/3 format, then bought an adapter and now can use the both 4/3 and M4/3 lenses with that camera!
I'm a happy camper.
Now wishing covid would pack its suitcase and go home so we can move freely again to get to the places where I like to take photos!

I want to thank everyone who read my post and followed up with a suggestion. I've learned a lot. In the end, what I did was use my gmail account--I'd forgotten that I even have one--and sent the pdf as an attachment using that vehicle.

Again, thank you all for taking the time to help me out.

Hey! Aren't we all members of this forum to help each other out?
I don't ask questions very often, or am able to give answers very often, but I have learned a lot, just reading the posts.

I have a PDF, a photo book I created, that I would like to share. The problem I keep running in to is that the file size, 59.9MB is too large for either my email, AOL, or Dropbox to accept. Is there any way that I can break the PDF into smaller pieces?

Just last week, I sent a folder containgin files totalling almost 148mb, using "Weshare"
It was the first time I used this, but it went off without a hitch.
May be worth a try.

My husband and I each have a Lumix/Panasonic DMC-FH1. It has a wrist-strap (important for my arthritic hands),
it fits in my handbag or pants pocket, even in my husband's shirt pocket. We've had these for a few years now and are still amazed at the quality of photos you can take with it!
Having said all that, my "go-to" camera is still the Olympus OM-D E-M1 mk3 as it does fit my hands better and there is definitely "more I can do with it."

I searched the UHH past posts on making photo books and the more recent posting was in 2018. Most of the posts suggested using LR and Blurb. Most of the other posts are more than seven years old - a lot of things change in that time period, so I'd like to get updated advise from experienced users.

I have made books using Shutterfly and Snapfish. Both were okay, but maybe one of the hogs likes some other photo product. The quick seach of the Internet returns MixBook, Collage and MPIX. Reading their intros doesn't excite me to try them-there's not enough info to distinguish them from another application, such as Shutterfly.

When I do a photo book, I want to include text to explain what the user is viewing and be able to control the placement and size of my photos.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Jose

For text, Blurb has a tutorial on their website:
https://support.blurb.com/hc/en-us/categories/201450966-Tutorials

I have not yet read these tutorials, but will be doing so in the next week or so, the book I am planning right now will have a lot of text, illustrated with photos.

Blurb is my go-to book printer. I've had them do the book with the wedding photos of our granddaughter, a book with the photos taken at my sister-in-laws 80th birthday, and a few more along that line.
I was very happy with the finished products!
For my next book I have the text ready, have to go through my photos to find appropriate ones to go with the story - it is the story of my growing-up and early adult years, will have four printed, one for each of my boys.
With the birthday book I had no problem putting captions with the photos.
If a full page of text is a problem with Blurb, I will save that page as a photo and use it that way.
Now to make a long shopping list and send my husband shopping so I can work on the book in peace :-)

Probably can be listed as "stupid question" but I have had this "problem" myself once or twice:
Did you format the card in the camera you would like to use it in?

I'm trying to put a boarder around my film images that have the film information on the boarder . Can anyone help me , would appreciate it much !

Might be a bit difficult, especially if the boarder has just finished eating and wants to just sit down.
However, if you were to try a border, you might have more luck...

(Sorry, just couldn't resist)

Sometimes I sure wish I knew what the emojis that show as little squares were!

Are you referring to the one you responded to?
That's not a little square, it's more of an oblong shape (of a hand) with a thumb sticking up...
In other words: a "thumbs up".

There is a another rectangular one, green in colour, that annoys me to no end - if I see that in a post, I skip that post, because it's advertising.

The Instruction manual that comes with the camera does not give size of card, from this I have taken that any size can be used.
It does give types of card, see pages 26, 27, 284.
