Hi to All, - I just got what I hope is a 'Killer Deal' on a Canon 80D for $600.00 (18 - 55mm lens incl.) from Craigslist. - It appears brand new, works fine, and so far, - I am thrilled with it!

My Question is: - How do I find the 'Shutter Count' - and If it is a USA, or Import Model.

(I tried one method and it says 'Shutter Count Disabled by Factory'!)

As far as USA or Import, - No Info,

so if anyone knows how to obtain this information, please help. - Thanks, - Pat

EOSMSG will read the shutter count but it is a $7 purchase. I bought it and it does work on my 80D.

My new teleconverter arrived today from B&H photo. Placed it on my new Sigma 150mm 2.8 lens and here is the results. Now my camera indicates F4 which was to be expected but if there is any IQ degradation I do not see it. The main image was cleaned up with Adobe Camera RAW 12.2.1 and the second image is a crop. Looks good to me and the price was right since it was on sale.

There is one issue I am having. When I shoot birds in trees a lot of the time the camera will focus on a twig right next to the bird and cause the bird to be out of focus. Anyway to avoid this? I simply take a dozen shots and hope on comes out in focus.

Canon changes the way shutter count is available with each DIGIC generation. I haven't researched the question in a while, but possibly an EOS 5DIV can no longer be accessed by anyone other than Canon.

The dealer I bought my Canon 80D from told me the new firmware is only readable by Canon service. If I need to know the shutter count I must send the camera to Canon. What a bunch of BS.

They have done enough harm. We don’t need pictures of them.

I set my 20 gauge pump by the screen door last summer. I made sure it was loaded and ready for action. The post man came along with the UPS man and several other people walked by my house that day. Either I have the laziest 20 gauge on history or guns don't do anything without a human controlling them. 😂

Absolutely. Guns do not k**l, people k**l.

Before the gun there was bow and arrow. Before that spears. Before than clubs.

Do not blame guns. If someone want to k**l something, they will always find a way ...........

Thank you for correcting my grammar and my spelling. Although it is hindsight, I prefer a wrist strap to protect my camera. You can also purchase an inexpensive rubber wrap around for your camera. It may not do a great job causing your camera to bounce but it allows you to have a better grip on it. One suggestion. Please don't leave your camera attached to the tripod and both slung over your shoulder. All to often the camera "snaps" off the tripod and damaging the bottom plate.

Be Well. Stay Safe!
Happy Shooting!

Same reason, when using a heavy lens, you hold the lens and NOT the camera body. I have actually seen a lens mount partially break off from the camera body due to the lens weight. Physics IS NOT always your friend.

I also had a Black Rapid strap "unscrew itself" from the tripod mount on the camera. Fortunately, I caught it on the way down and promptly attached a DIY tether strap from a shoestring and attached to the camera strap mount (Canon 6D).

YIKES! Bet that got the adrenaline flowing.

Just curious as to why you stated "never had anyone try to grab the camera and run, even in Germany." Is that a big problem in Germany and if so why do you think that is? They seem to have a good economy and I don't recall any stories about being cautious when traveling in Germany, just seemed like a curious statement to me.

The stories I have heard of grab and run have all happened in southeast Asia area. Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Philippines.

Although some places are more prone to this type of criminal activity, it can happen anywhere at anytime.

Must always be aware of your surroundings and take proper precautions the best you can.

I live in Michigan and I am always nervous going to Detroit to shoot photos.

I dropped a Canon 5D Mark III body on the first afternoon of a river cruise as I was trying to change lenses. It showed nothing but an error code, regardless of all the tricks I tried to get it to revive. There was no chance for a repair before I returned home, but Canon turned it around in a business week. The entire shutter assembly was replaced by the repair center (essentially turning it into a new camera--no shutter actuations). It has worked perfectly since the repair.

Boy did you get lucky. Only a few hundred dollars I bet.

It is a really nice lens, I have owned it and now own its big brother the 180mm, have also owned the Canon 180mm Macro, the Sigma is by far the nicer lens of the two. Have fun with it.

Congrats on your new lens! I’m starting to believe you can’t go wrong with Sigma lens. I recently bought a Sigma 100-400. I loved how sharp my photos were hand held from that lens. Just a few days ago I bought the 105mm macro. I love Sigma! Have fun!

Sigma makes some extremely good lens at substantial savings over the Canon brand and just as well made IMO. Tamron is also a good lens but they tend to make unorthodox changes. Example: The Tamron 70-200 has the zoom ring on the end of the lens where everyone else has the zoom ring in the middle. I have also encountered Tamron lens which operate backwards from all other manufactures. Still excellent well made lens which produce great results if you can live with the weirdness. They are also less money than Canon too and Tamron offers a 6 year warranty.

I have owned several Sigma lens over the years and was never disappointed.
