Shutter Count on 5DIV?

I have had a member express interest in purchasing my 5DIV and I was getting ready to send pics and information about the camera and when I went to get the shutter count using "EOS COUNT" I found that it will not read the 5D IV. Apparently Canon's newer firmware is for some reason hiding this information from outside software, not sure if the reason is good or bad but regardless I am wondering if anyone is aware of a different software that will read the late model Canon cameras.

Canon changes the way shutter count is available with each DIGIC generation. I haven't researched the question in a while, but possibly an EOS 5DIV can no longer be accessed by anyone other than Canon.

You could try EOSmsg: http://www.eosmsg.com/

It isn’t free, but very cheap, works well and claims support for the 5DIV.

Check the exif data on one of your flickr pics. I don't know about Canon, but my Nikon data shows the shutter count.

I will give that a shot, I tried to download the software mentioned above and even though it said for Mac on the website my Mac computer said that it was a windows program and would not install.

Edit, although a lot of information in the Exif data on Flickr shutter count for Canon is not there.

Canon does not embed the shutter count into any of the image files / file types.

I saw that, tried Flickr did not work, my problem is that when I first got the camera I was shooting a lot of eagles in flight back then and it was not unusual for me to go out and shoot 500+ images on an outing. But because I could not get close enough to the eagles I ended up getting the 5DSR so I could crop tighter. The 5DIV has not seen a lot of use in the last two years but the first few months I had it it did and I have no idea how many actuations have been done on that shutter. I figure I will just tell him somewhere in the 30K range.

Try http://www.freeshuttercount.com/ which is only free if your actuation count is under 1,000 but at $7 USD it is manageable and reads my old 50D nicely. Curiously, the web site only shows up to the Mk3 but I have put in a query and will let you know what they say. In the meantime you could try the free version and see if it registers a count xx357 where the xx is above the 1,000 mark.

The only one that works 'for sure' is ShutterCount Mobile Version 4.4 by DIRE Studio Kft. It costs $4.99 and will only work on the Mac platform. It works with the newer Canon cameras with WiFi. I use it with my 7D Mark II and my 5D Mark IV. I don't have a Mac computer but I do have an iPad. I connect via WiFi from the iPad to the 5D IV and once it connects, it gives me the shutter count. I have to fool around with it a lot to get it to work because I don't use it often enough and WiFi settings in the camera are confusing.

What system do you use for numbering your photos? What I have done is set my numbering to “continuous” sp when it shows 100-9999, it will move to 101-0001 for the next shot so looking at this I know I have taken 10,000 shots. While not an official shutter count at least it lets me know how many shutter actuations I have made. So if you have used continuous numbering you have a good approximation of your shutter count. BTW, my 5D IV currently shows 100-7002 after almost three years.

When you have multiple EOS bodies and multiple cards shared across all the equipment, your system can provide no relevant information regarding the usage of any individual EOS body within the portfolio of cameras.

I have a 5D Mark IV with latest firmware. I use a program called ShutterCount.app (an Apple App) and it reads my shutter count just fine.
