Canon 80D Info

Hi to All, - I just got what I hope is a 'Killer Deal' on a Canon 80D for $600.00 (18 - 55mm lens incl.) from Craigslist. - It appears brand new, works fine, and so far, - I am thrilled with it!

My Question is: - How do I find the 'Shutter Count' - and If it is a USA, or Import Model.

(I tried one method and it says 'Shutter Count Disabled by Factory'!)

As far as USA or Import, - No Info,

so if anyone knows how to obtain this information, please help. - Thanks, - Pat

Regarding shutter count: purchase and install some software, bring it on a laptop along with a USB cable, details: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-646963-1.html. If the camera looks brand new, the count will be a non issue for a shutter rated to 150,000, probably not worth the effort to worry about.

Canon, at least for now, will service Grey Market equipment. As a private purchase, you wouldn't have a warranty anyway. If they are the original owner, do they have the USA warranty card that will confirm the source?

I have tried, and none of the programs I have found will let me find out the shutter count on my 80D.

CHG Canon said it all: “ If the camera looks brand new, the count will be a non issue for a shutter rated to 150,000, probably not worth the effort to worry about.”

There’s a never ending obsession with‘ shutter count’ on this site. Why? They’re like the heartbeats, you already possess the machine, you can’t predict when a specific model will quit. It’s out of warranty, use it, take care of it, enjoy what you have left and stop fretting.

Thanks to all of you who have put in their expertise and experience to help me with my request for info on the Canon 80D. - I will now be quiet and enjoy the camera, and not be overly concerned with its past history!

Have you looked at the plate on the bottom of the camera. Origin should show, along with s/n, and a bunchof other info.

EOSMSG will read the shutter count but it is a $7 purchase. I bought it and it does work on my 80D.

Actually, the 80D is durability rated for 100,000 "clicks". (The 90D was increased to 120,000. The 7D Mark II is 200,000. 6DII and 5DIV are 150,000.)

Not that this means very much... If they make it past their first month or two, most cameras live well beyond their "click rating".

Plus, not all clicks are equal.... A camera that was used for a lot of video will have much, much more time on all its electronic components, than a camera only used for still photos. In time, a 30 second video clip is equal to 7500 images shot at 1/250. Of course, the single opening and closing of the shutter for the video means a lot less wear and tear on that particular component... but all the electronics of the camera are another matter.

"Clicks" on a camera are like mileage on a car... They're not just about shutters wearing out. Other components can fail, too. Thankfully, they seldom do! Today's DSLRs are pretty robust.
