I have used a multitude of different backgrounds for flower work. Velvet works well for black, (Make sure it is "real" velvet though, not one of the cheaper imitations.) Of late I have been using coloured mounting board, this is available in a vast range of colours and sizes. (You can get a good range of greys and pale, soft blues, which I find work well.) I buy A1 size boards from a local framing company. This may sound a bit on the large size, but allows you to make changes in subject, camera and light placement without falling off the edge of the background. Also, allows you to be far enough from the b/ground, to lose any shadows. Hope this helps.

A situation well handled, especially bythe securuty guard, who while taking his job seriously, also did his best to ensure that the public got the best result. There are jobsworths all over the world that could, and should, learn from this.

Many thanks Graham. I have just ordered from them, and no suggestion of being out of stock. Here's hoping.

The biggest problem seems to be finding someone who stocks it. Both here in UK and in USA. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Contact Nikon. They do a good job, and unless you have one of the first ones, it is probably still under warranty.

It was shown on the program "Click" last Saturday. It will still be available on "BBC i-player".

Been using one for a couple of years now. Good easy use macro, and not a bad 90mm either. No problems with the results.

Just a guide, but works for me. If you are doing snapshots to pass round, then glossy. Photos to be framed semi-gloss or lustre. For mounted & framed prints I prefer matte. Obviously it depends on the subject, but suits me and my style.

Crap comes out of two orifices, and has nothing to do with cameras.

I have a Sigma 150 - 500 which I am pleased with. I too had previously owned Sigma lenses that I was less than happy with, but this one has bought me back to the Sigma fold. So much so that I have bought their 150mm macro, and 12 - 24mm in the last 6 months, and plan to get the 85mm 1.4 after the holiday.
It has been mentioned that there seem to be a lot of the 150 - 500's for sale s/h. I would suggest that this is a large lens, and takes a bit of getting used to. My first shots were terrible, so give it a bit of time. The OS works well, and the bulk of my shots with this lens are hand held. The only time it goes on a tripod is when I'm covering a bird feeding station, and that is only because it is a convenient place to park it for what could be hours at a time. It's no lightweight. A good quality lens, for a good price. It has to be a serious contender in this size of lens, particularly if you need to be budget wary.

Hi, I just bought a Sigma 85mm 1.4 from e-Global. On opening it up, the lens was faulty. Trying to get hold of them was difficult, until you sign up for their own communication system. Then they were not too bad. They arranged collection of the lens to go back to China, but then took 5 days to confirm that there was a problem. That was too long for me, so I asked for my money back, which they have said will take 3 - 5 days. We are at day 2 at the moment, so we shall see. At least this way I have been able to go to Wex to buy a lens. Phoned an order in yesterday afternoon - lens delivered lunchtime today. The lens from e-Global was about £100 cheaper, took 7 days to get here, and was a bit of hastle when things go wrong. They did try, but halfway round the world, time differences etc do not help. Also, the warranty would not be valid on the e-global lens if anything went wrong at a later time. Would love to stay and chat, but I have a new lens to play with.

This is supposed to be someone responsible for children ? The only good thing I can see in this is that it shows that we in UK are not alone in having idiots. It is the teacher that needs to be suspended until he can get a grasp on the realities of life, and his place in it.
