I was recently told by a Canon user that my camera (nikon D700 was crap and that Nikon was going down the toilet. No doubt my feelings were hurt considering I have top notch equipmentI was upset because I would never say that about any camera, even and old box camera because I have always believed it is the photographer not the camera that makes the picture. Tell me I am wrong
Sorry, can't do that. You be better off, just ignoring stupid remarks like that, obviously that guy had no idea what he was talking about (maybe it was envy)?
that person was just being terribly rude! Nikon has really excellent equipment and that is the true. On one of my newsletters there was a survey and 71% of the users had Nikon cameras!!!
Of the top 13 cameras--9 were Nikon models-hmmmm isn't that interesting
the D7000 is an excellent model and is considered to be a semi pro camera

Consider the source of your intelligent (?), unbiased (?) and highly sought after (?) feedback.
I come here to learn, I come here to share my knowledge little as it might be in some areas. I seldom attempt to get into a pissing contest with a skunk.
If a person told you your camera is crap, and Nikon is going down the drain ask the to fund your future camera budget and purchases or turn a deaf ear and this case eye to such

The camera is a tool, and better tools help us do better/faster work, which improves our chance of making a great picture. The quality of both the photographer and the equipment contribute to the quality of the photograph. Whether or not your camera is crap depends on what you are trying to accomplish and whether it is a good tool for that.
But here's the other factor: there are very few photographic situations where a Canon camera would be a significantly better tool than your D700.
That is what makes his comment absurd, if he is saying that your camera is crap compared to any Canon model.

Is this idiot a member of this or any other forum?

Doug B, relax. If the worst that has happened to you here on the Hog, is that your camera was insulted, just smile and feel smug.
If you tell me who the offender is, I will personally go and beat him with his own useless camera about the buttocks and kneecaps. That's assuming of course he's not in hiding! Good photographers don't need to say that stuff, they know better. And nothing worse than a Fan Boy that doesn't have a clue of what he speaks. Gives all the other good Fan Boys a bad rap!
So Doug, your manhood is still intact is it not? So then, just relax.
But you're right about it being the photographer. Ever seen the quantity of bad photos out there?
SS
any camera/lens that takes a decent picture is not a peice of crap. some folks brains and mouths are out of sync.
Well Doug B, you have said it yourself " I have always believed it is the photographer not the camera that makes the picture". Do not take that comment to heart, they do walk amongst us.
Sorry that happened to you! I've had people tell me that my camera isn't very good and I just tell them Well it's a good thing it isn't YOUR camera then, isn't it? Onward and upward!
Yes Doug, you are wrong.
Wrong to be offended by such idiotic comments as that.
The D700 is a very good camera that will still do everything that it would do when it was brought out (actually it probably does a little more with the firmware updates).
And it will be a very good camera for a long time.

It is hard to find a Canon that is better (lot of them with more pixels today, but not better in other terms) than a Nikon D700 which is a legendary camera still highly valued by photographers world wide after many years in production. This "crap telling guy" obviously does not know much about cameras.
I personally prefer Canon to Nikon (except for point & shoot)... I would still never say that about someones equipment. I totally agree that it is about the photographer more than the equipment in almost any situation.
Some people just feel the need to put someone down in order to lift themselves up.
It is typical for long distance hikers starting out on the Appalachian trail to talk about their gear selection in comparison to what others are carrying. The ones who last more than a few weeks on the trail stop talking about their gear and start talking about their hike. Nikon are fine cameras, so are Canons, so are Sony, and others. If they were not very good, you would not be able to buy them because they would not be around. Nuff said.
