I am having an issue with focusing which has me baffled! I am using the Nikon D200 with a 50mm 1.8 lens. A friend of mine was bitten multiple times by a dog and needed photos of the bites for legal reasons. I said sure and we went outside in good light and I proceeded to take the photos. They are located on her lower back, both wrists and right upper arm. I can not get the camera to focus on the bites. It just searches over and over. I can lock onto her face, her whole body and anything around here but when I try to get a focus lock on the bites it will not focus. I am back far enough. I ended up getting good photos by doing a manual focus. Never experienced this before. What makes it even stranger is I can hold my hand out at arms length and the camera will focus and lock. Camera was in P mode with flash open.

I use autopano giga and the results are excellent. The program is easy to use.

The guy at the camera shop if correct. Sand, dirt and mold can get under those snap on protectors. Even a cellphone case will collect dirt and scratch the phone if not kept clean. Here is the solution and it works for me. At least once a week snap off the protector and clean it as well as the LCD screen. Do this after every shoot if you are in a dirty/dusty environment. Clean it regularly and you should have no problems. I have not so far .....

I know how you feel and I sympathize with you over your camera.
I lived in Daytona Beach 20 years ago and had items come up missing from time to time. I rigged a hidden camera and low and behold it was the land lord using his pass key to rip me off and probably others too. I am not saying this has happened in your case but you can never tell these days who is honest and who is a thief. I did get somethings back but managed to put the thief out of business. Consider ALL possibilities. Good Luck!

PS I put a monitored alarm system on my apartment and for $35/month monitoring it was well worth the piece of mind.

Thanks to all who replied. Yes, it really was a Nikon Series E 100mm lens. A gentlemen was advertising his late uncles old film camera and two series E lens, 50mm and 100mm. Lens functions on my D200 after setting the non-cpu lens settings and looks as if it had never been used. I decided to pass and look for a newer AF lens. Manual focus on this D200 without a split screen would in my opinion be a minus. Would definitely limit its use to stationary shots as I can not see manual focusing a moving object.

Nikon Series E 100mm Manual Focus Lens

Does anyone have any experience with this lens? Is is any good? I have an opportunity to pick up one in new condition for $75. It would be used on my D200.

Thanks to all

Anyone know anything about the Nikkor AF 28-85mm F3.5-4.5 lens. Found one in mint condition for $100. It seem very well built and on the heavy side since it is metal. I would be using it with my Nikon D200. Just thought I would ask since the only lens I have now is a 50mm F1.8 and it can get a little restrictive.

Thanks to all who respond! :D

I have one that I'm willing to let you have. The optics are fine. I don't really know what is meant by slow AF is, it is a little noisy though. It has the metal HN-24 hood, but I don't have a rear cap for it. It does not have the "D" marking, curiously.

If you don't like it, you can "pass it forward". Let me know.

sure I will take it if the offer is still good.

If the camera is still in excellent shape and you still like the camera the shutter box can be replaced for $200~$300. Much cheaper than a new camera. Personally I would replace the shutter box. No real reason to scrape a perfectly good camera and drop lots of $$$. Just my opinion! :)

I am new to this D200 camera. I may have accidentally changed a setting I do not know about. The camera is taking photos inside on the dark side. I have to use Photoshop to lighten them up then they look great. Any suggestions? Anyone know how to set the camera back to the factory defaults?

Thanks
