Huh? You don't argue with a woman, you just tell her what to do and when to do it. Simple.

What is it?

Computational photography is another way to designate light-field (LF) photography. In short, a LF camera captures the dimensional information in a scene (not 3D). With this information, after the exposure the user can change where the focus is located in the scene, change the depth of field and its location, etc. Ren Ng did his dissertation on this technology while at Stanford and then started a company called Lytro. They produced several camera types, but the company essentially failed. A couple of yours ago Google acquired this company. Likely we will see LF technology appear in Google smartphones in the near future. If you want to know more, Google light-field photography. I note that LF photography is very computationally intense. Back in the early 2000s, Ren demonstrated his prototype camera at a SPIE workshop. It took about 10 minutes to process the image! Of course, Lytro developed a custom processor years later that got the time down better than an old Polaroid camera.

Also, some use the term computational photography in a broader sense such as digital creation of images or modification/enhancement of conventional photographic images or ....

What I've noticed, Jerry, is that women instinctively know what each other are going to say by the middle of the sentence, so they jump right in with their new contribution. Men, however, tend to wait until somebody is done speaking before talking. Since women never do finish what they're saying when with one another, a guy just doesn't have a chance. In a group like a painting group? Forget it!!!

The reason why women have this instinctive knowledge about what each other are going to say is simple ... they have nothing new to say and just repeat it over and over and over ...

Now men on the other have have lots of new and important information to share with other men.

You are never too old to dream of buying a Canon.

Hi CHG_CANON,
I have all Nikon gear now, but I'm convinced that Nikon will be no better than #3 in the mirrorless gear race. Sony and Canon will have to fight it out. Who's dreaming? Once this virus stuff passes and we can travel again, I'll be buying. Been thinking about becoming an illegal immigrant and heading to NYC since it was reported a few days ago that they will be handing out $15,600 checks to illegal immigrants. Grab my check and head down to B&H and help the economy!

For some time I have been looking for a camera that resolves plenty of detail, particularly for landscape photography, is good for low light photography and has responsive auto-focus suitable for indoor sports, particularly basket ball. On paper anyway the Canon EOS R5 appears to tick those boxes. 45MP full frame should resolve a lot of detail. Standard ISO 100-51,200 suggests acceptable resolution at higher ISO settings for low light situations. It is probably reasonable to expect that Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS AF with various area modes and tracking choices would be suitable for sports action. With frame rates 12-20fps depending on shutter choice, inbuilt image stabilization and many other desirable features, the EOS R5 seems to be a winner. What has been the real life experience of any UHH members lucky enough to get their hands on one of these cameras?

I have a friend who had the earlier Canon mirrorless to replace his DSLR Canon pro camera. He was most disappointed. Recently he purchased the R5 and the 28-105 (I believe this is the range he said) and the 100-500 lenses. He is extremely happy with the R5 and had no regrets. Sort of encourages me to go Canon when I move to mirrorless. ha ha Get it an you will be happy I'm sure.

Looking at WA for D810, I have D810 w Nik 28-300, D7500 w Nik 18-200, Rokinon 2.8/14mm for astro, Tamrom 150-600. Looking for landscape lens. Choice between Nikon 16-35 F/4 and Tamron 15-30 2.8. The Nikon will take a polarizer and the Tamron will not without added cost. Comments on choice welcome please. WA for 7500 an option because of less weight.

May I suggest that you consider the AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm f/4G ED VR rather than the Tamron. It has excellent MTF over the central 2/3 of the FOV in the wide setting. If you are serious about making great landscapes, this lens on the D810 can make excellent pano images if you overlap about 30%. In the tele setting it is almost as good and hence you can have some flexibility in your final framing. Of course, you should have the pano gear on a good tripod.

My father took videos of his/our trips and family activities and so did I with my girls. After viewing them once no one wants to see them again - even many years later - too long to sit through even when converted to digital. Whereas photo albums or on line are viewed regularly. That's my experience and why I don't do videos except for some short clips.

Hi Ecobin,

My experience too. I have made a number of photo books that include commentary on trips we have taken. Those seems to be viewed multiple times. But they are a lot of work to do it right. (Right means that the family correcting the comments in the draft version have stropped! )

Hi Doc.. If you don't mind me asking, how much are you paying for the Laminator 4 AI...?

Hi Gordie,
I don't recall because I did the preorder plus I already had Luminar 4 which gave a bit more discount as I recall.
Best regards,
Doc

Guessing the developers of these AI featured programs ( and editor app push most machines ) do their genius on 'gamer' spec water cooled units.
Downside they take few opportunities to run test work on older machines.
One bottle neck I believe is graphics cards.
Older guys playing with older machines, the tech conflicts are endless.

You are correct 205Egan regarding the graphics cards. My cards were top-of-the-line 11 years ago, but Luminar 4 wouldn't run correctly. Their tech support didn't help much. So I decided the solution must be that the GPU was inadequate. Put in a new (and much improved) card and all was well. Also helped run some other programs faster.

I have a new Tamron 150-600 G2, and part of lens is fine tuning to your camera. You send your camera and lens in and they fine tune it once. There is a docking station you can buy so you can do it but I would let them do it.
Anyone have experience with this process?

Yes, I have the same lens and a D810. Sent on a Friday and received it back the following Friday. This was before the Chinese virus attack. I also have the Tapin unit and did okay on tuning, but they did much better. First class packing of the camera and lens on return. They pay return shipping. Your homeowners may cover the insurance. Mine does. Great service.

I have a Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 lens and the zoom is stuck around 18mm . I wanting to get it repaired. But the Tamron Co. repair has some real bad reviews on line. Does anyone have any experience, advice, or recommendations on Tamron lens repair. Anything
would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Likely the bad reviews are by Canon and Nikon service. Just kidding. Tamron Service is the best I have ever experienced. Send it in and they will have it bad in a week in FedEx is working normally, but they aren't it seems.

Hi everyone.

I am interested in adding a wide-angle lens for my Nikon D5300. I do like to travel to see nature’s beauty. My next destination is Glacier National Park. I have the standard lens kit that came with the camera. They are the 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6GII and the 55-200mm 1:4-5.6GII. I have added a Nikon70-300mm 1:4.5-5.6. I am happy with them but I would like get a wider point of view. There are so many options that I am really confused. I have been looking at the Nikon AF-S FX NIKKOR 16-35mm f/4G ED Vibration Reduction Zoom Lens with Auto Focus for Nikon DSLR Cameras. I am not sure if it is what I need. It looks impressive but there are other brands and wide-angle lenses out there. Any advice or suggestions?

Use the lens you have, take a solid tripod, get a pano mount (I use RSS), and practice before your wonderful trip. You can make huge panoramic images and then you can have the ability to create the final images you will want top print and display! I strongly recommend PTGui Pro 11.31 to create your pano images. I didn't receive either stimulus check and I just got off the phone with the IRS and was told if I file a 2020 tax return I could get them, maybe. When I went on disability in 2019, I talked to a tax professional and was told I would never have to file taxes again. To say I'm aggravated would be an understatement. Oh well, I hope you all have a nice day.

The IRS told you correctly. It will become a tax credit on your 2020 return and the money will be sent to the bank account you provide, or they will mail it to you (not a good idea in general). You still will need to provide your disability income and any interest or other income even if the total is below the filling threshold. Do this as soon as possible so that if the third stimulus check is provided, the IRS will have the bank coordinates to send the funds. If not, just wait until April and claim all three payments. Otherwise you will need to fine an amended return. Good luck!
