Interesting. Which one do you like best? And why?

I guess I must like the last one because that is where I stopped playing around.

Sort of a play on Picasso's "The Old Guitarist." Three renditions of the same frame.

The first image so reminds me of the work of Josef Sudek*, the Check photographer. The sense of the sunlight through the window, the play of light on the painted frames of that glass, if not the glass itself. The use of the wheat colored yellowish print that has the sense of early silver gelatin prints. Most of all it is the feeling of the interior that carries the image into the special realms of the turn of the century that Sudek's images are so loaded with.

I especially drawn to the hand colored--have not been able to reproduce that!

You are right--I cropped it and forgot to save the crop----oooops. Let's just use the excuse---I'm old and forgetful.

A lot of the time I try to have some control of a shoot but That is really minimal. I get the lighting the way I want it, get the starting props, tell the model the general idea, but then I like to give the model the opportunity to control--just say "have at it" and I will push the button. When they look through them--periodically they can't just delete any that I got that they feel shows them badly. But here is a sequence that they put together. They chose the wardrobe and props and all I did was light and push the button. We had a blast until we were all laughing so hard we had to stop.

Great setting and great model.

In the first two I find the poses a bit awkward. It looks like she is fighting the barrel, but also trying to pose at the same time, and no one would struggle to push a barrel with those foot/toe positions. I suspect the barrel is propped, but I still feel because of its angle the scene is one of her trying to push/hold the barrel, and the pose just does not show realistic physical engagement with the barrel.

In #3 the barrel is stable, so I only see her using it as a prop for the pose, and that works better for me.

I hope you have a few more in the series.
Great setting and great model. br br In the first... (show quote)

The barrel was not propped but I did ask her to try to roll it like it was full. Unfortunately? she has modeled so much with photogs saying "point your toes"d and she is a dancer so the foot position is just sort of built into her. I agree with what you say but all of the series is the same! Thanks for looking so carefully.

More? Yeah, I probably post more until the file is empty but I'll go first to another folder. They are just not all alike.

[quote=JohnFrim]I will relate a funny episode from many years ago where stature played a significant role. Sorry about the length of the narrative, but it was very amusing to see.

And part of it was our expectation that an actor should be taller! Funny, funny story--poor kids!

I have collected a rather large array of old cameras but most of them because they are not working and could be had for a fraction of the cost of museum quality. If you are not concerned about working I would be glad to tell you what I have that I would part with. Several Leica copies with names I cannot pronounce so are from Eastern Europe or USSR. Jambed but look OK. ETC

I, for one, have a negative feel for such container shots. It may be a sense of claustrophobia or such. The technique was done well, though.

Is 4'10" the maximum full height of the model? More a curiosity query.

That is what she says and standing beside her it would seem accurate.

To be serious for a moment I could see where you were going with the others and they were posed and composed well. To me #3 seems awkwardly posed and just doesn't project a purpose for the photo.

I was serious- in my reply. When I look, after your comment, I think the hands are beautiful and should be cropped into just the hands and go in the "Hands" folder. The smiley was just to say I took no offense!
